My close friends blog on Lovlinas chances

https://emojisarebald.com/2021/07/27/tokyo-olympics-2021-what-are-lovlina-borgohains-chances-in-her-quarter-final-bout-match-telecast-details-timings/

Prediction

Lovlina’s recent glories, form, a height 3 inches) advantage, plus that she gets three days rest and time to acclimatize herself with Tokyo conditions, give her the edge over Chen. On top, she beat the hot inform Nadine – the first German boxer to qualify for Olympics 2021. It will be a fiercely contested match and I personally think, patriotism aside, Lovina has the edge. She has a great chance to add to India’s medal tally at Tokyo 2021, after Saikhom Mirabai Chanu’s silver medal on the opening day of the games.

Hope to hear more good news from him. Personally have very high expectation from Amit, maybe even gold.

I wll again rant about GOI should hugely cut BCCI's finances & immediately stops any cricket stadium or infra being built.  For cricket team there should be accountability coz if they don't win ICC tourneys there is no point in paying them gazillions.

Why? The game brings in a huge amt of money. This is due to the savvy of the board who were able to capitalize on the craze for the sport in India.

Why should they be penalized for other sports not able to do the same? Maybe ranting about ppl who don't care about other sports would be better IMO. Cricket is India's most popular sport. It supplanted hockey in the 80s. Other sports have the same opportunity. Again I don't see why we need to pull one sport down for others.

Shooting has had so much money pumped into it since 2008. We stand nowhere in it at the Olympics. Time for other sports to stand up and make it count

Hockey news, Aus-Spain 1-1 draw, biggest upset of Tokyo!!!!

Or maybe Aus chose to not overstrain or risk niggles. #1 in pool A anyway.

Expecting India to follow suit, will try to win but not play with high energy/pace. #2 is assured for us.

So if Sindhu wins, bronze is confirmed? Or will we have a bronze game between the losing semifinalists?

There will be a bronze match. I think Boxing and another contact sport are the only sport where the semi-finalists are automatically awarded bronze medals

Only contact sports like Boxing, Judo etc don't have bronze play off

Racquet sports do have Bronze play off. Saina Nehwal won bronze in 2012 through the play-off

No. Only in a few sports (Boxing, Judo, Taekwondo and Wrestling) two bronze medals are awarded in each event – one for each eliminated semi-finalist or for the winners of the repechage brackets.

No, there is a bronze medal match in badminton.

Only combat sports have this 2 bronze rule, Wrestling via repechage and Boxing via bronze to both losing  SFists.

Judo/Taekwondo too have 2 bronze medals but I don't know whether they follow the wrestling or boxing system.

Sorry only for boxing. Found this explanation online

  1. In boxing, both the semifinalist receives bronze medal. This is because of the provision of boxing by which a loser of a boxing match can only fight his/her next bout after a certain time period. But as these competitions are of very limited time period, both the semifinalist receives bronze medal.

The Women are missing a lot of chances, no hockey expert though I feel we should have been ahead by now.

Indeed. They have not converted any penalities and missed obvious chances. They have been attacking and I hope they at least continue to do that.

Sakshi Malik along with another opponent during last olympics also won bronze in her wrestling event.

Why can't they have bronze medal match on the same day as gold medal match? Same time for all 4 boxers, and not like a bout takes 4 hours to finish. They can wrap up both matches in max 45 minutes time, giving sufficient gap between the bouts. Prize ceremony after that, everything done and dusted within an hour.

PS: Just read again. Since the provision is only for losers of the bouts, is it because of injury fears? Anyway interesting explanation.
