zen Posted July 29, 2021 Posted July 29, 2021 One of the keys to developing a cricket team, esp. from the perspective of winning big tournaments, is to create a strategy to pursue and identify and back the right talent per that strategy. It is also important to not get frustrated by bad series and failures, learning to see those as experiences that shape a cricketer. Some cricketers peak early and some late so it is good to keep an open mind. In LOIs, one good example is Eng, which backed a plan in 2015 to finally achieve success in 2019. The idea is to create a system that works for the team. To not complicate matters, let's stick to the top 6 batsmen in T20s. If you had to back one of these two lineups with mostly young cricketers, which one would you back over a period of time. Assume that you cannot mix and match from the below: Team A (Swashbucklers, which may not necessarily have consistent batsmen but as group strives for impact where any 2-3 of the top 6, depending upon whose day it is, will perform in a game. Most of the batsmen here will have a good series too but will not necessarily be competing for the orange cap): Shaw, Kishan, Samson, SKY, Pant, and SDP (Hardik) ... Other options include players like Agarwal, Samad, etc. Team B (This line up includes players that could be competing for the orange cap. Consistent but not necessarily impactful): KL, Paddikal, Gill, Iyer, Pandey, and Jadeja ... Other options include players like Gaikwad, Shankar, etc.
maniac Posted July 29, 2021 Posted July 29, 2021 I wouldn’t want either batting line ups against Aus,Eng,Nzl or even in high profile games like Pakistan. raki05 and sage 1 1

That is not the topic though. And when Ppl can make a case from a variety of perspective. Edited July 29, 2021 by zen
Majestic Posted July 29, 2021 Posted July 29, 2021 Samson doesn't belong to Team A. He is timid mentally weak cricketer. KL Rahul doesn't belong to Team B. He is an impact batsman who has the ability to win games on his own. Gill is an impact test batsman. Paddikal, Jadeja and Iyer may not be swashbucklers but they are mentally strong cricketers who always bring out the better of themselves. These guys belong to international standards even though they may not be as gifted as Samson.
Lord Posted July 29, 2021 Posted July 29, 2021 in a T20 on a patta anyday team A tough pitch both would lose

For e.g. Samson is a top order player, whose USP is playing 2-3 good/impactful innings in a series. He has played a few games for India but difficult to judge a player who is not given a consistent run and not necessarily played in positions that work best for him.

He simply doesn't have the mentality for international cricket. Top order or middle order, India have better batsman than him for any position and Samson doesn't even belong to India 'B'. As for the team, I will pick Team A because others are international standards.

As I said, players have their own USPs, Samson has his too - ability to hit 2-3 impactful knocks including winning 1 or 2 games on his own with the bat, which is what Team A is mostly about. A backed player after a consistent run can look different.
BacktoCricaddict Posted July 29, 2021 Posted July 29, 2021 A, all the way. Live by the sword. Die by the sword. In T20s. zen 1
Ankit_sharma03 Posted July 29, 2021 Posted July 29, 2021 neither, it shud be ur best XI that covers all important bases- Impact, consistency, variety kohli and maniac 1 1
neel roy Posted July 29, 2021 Posted July 29, 2021 Problem is indian audiences want both. They want to see impact players and they also want to see consistency. Issue is not winning finals. If we finals We ll care a damm How we won it. In 2011 w cup we had Sehwag doing impact on top and Sachin consistency and yuvraj to some extent both. We were very consistent in 2019 but we lost. 2015 we were unbeaten in all matches till Sf and were consistent..We were impactful and consistent in 2013 CT we won.. so we need to butter as well as jam the bread to win..
