We must go for a 4 PACER template for most tests in SENA unless a clear turner is expected.

This is just a general guideline which doesn't and shouldn't mean much when there are specific facts available to base a decision on. Ashwin has a SR as good as frontline quicks in recent past so that automatically negates your cricketing cliche.

Overseas?

Depends on quality of bowlers too. Ash did do well in Aus with little help

Here with sun around its  expected to swing less later

Whatever the quality of the spinner, if the ball is seaming or swinging and not spinning, captains will end up bowling pacers.

That is what is generally seen.

Still I am not comfortable with Ishant at 8

Not an ideal choice either.

like so many games won by Ashwin in 4th innings in SENA.

apart from Joburg 2013 hes done well in 4th innings in whatever little chances he got

I am in favour of having backups for every position.

We are not carrying a backup for the pace bowling allrounder at No.8 or earlier. This is poor planning.

Shankar is needed if Pandya isnt bowling. That's just basic.

Could have flown in Chahar too alongwith SKY and Shaw

Did he win us those games?

SR of 109. Average of 36. 7 wickets in the link you posted.

Shankar is a batsman who can bowl. We don't need a batting alrounder. We need a bowling alrounder who can bat at 8.

he did well.Which pacer apart from Ishant 2014 won it singlehandedly

In Adelaide,Ashwin's 3 were very important

Ideally we need both.If Shankar was available and in form he could replace Jadeja or even some other bat

Not too many options for no.8 .Bhuvi is injury prone and Chahar's FC numbers are not good(Though could do well here)

Jadeja could have only been replaced if Ashwin had batted as good as him. Ashwin could have been #7. Shankar can't replace Jadeja because he is top 6 bat and only a part time bowler. Won't play as a 4th seamer.

Kahan did well. The link shows 7 wickets average 36 and SR of 109.

already said apart from Joburg 2013.That has big impact as sample size is low

Ishant as the 4th pacer isn't the ideal choice either.

I would have gone with Ashwin, given we have Bumrah in form, Siraj and Shami.

Im also confident Ashwin will score more runs than one of our top 6 batsmen.

I am very happy to see our 4 pacer combo succeeding.  Took all 20 wickets including 120 all out on a day 5 pitch.

The intensity and energy we saw from our quicks, throughout the day, is the key to overseas wins. And this is possible if there are 4 of them.

52 overs mein full england team ko out KIYA....

10/10 bowling....149 k by boom..got just the opener out in second innings but started taking ...shammi also got the first one quickly and then IShant and Siraj continued taking wickets....

most impressed by SIRAJ and BOOM..both are bowling fast and accurate.

though ishant and Shammi also got 5 and 3 wickets.

but i feel shammi will soon take 5 wickets in next test. he is very skilled and has good pace too.....

Ishant the Old MAN is becoming a clever fast bowler.

Siraj seems to know the right line and length to bowl at.. i think he got Root out once which luckily did not happen.
