This is pure bullshit by Indian players

Requires thorough investigation

Everyone is going to office working with covid lurking

When they had tested negative why not play the game delay by 1-2 day if needed second confirmation

Everyone knows covid spread by aerosols , u can get it anywhere even when playing in front of crowds

This is just money sucking players

To avoid loosing it on IPL gave up on possibly Indian cricket biggest win

This is literally a crime committed by Kohli gang bcci against Indian and. English cricket fans for no reasons

1)    How is the region being ruined in other areas by this particular incident  ?

And in other area, generally speaking, India has made lots of progress in many different areas. We have the 3rd highest GDP in the world in terms of purchasing power parity and are among the top 6 in tems of nominal GDP.

What this means is that good and services are being produced / provided significantly and people are working hard to this end.

I see infrastructure developing by the month in most parts of India.

Yes, we have lots of areas to further improve in. Lots more work needs to be done. But positive steps are being taken and lots of improvement have been seen in the last 20 years.

The point is that cricket should be one of the last things to display patriotism when people in the region for e.g. have turned the area into a garbage - see River Ganga for e.g.

Note GDP on its own means nothing. When a family of 5 earns 100,000, while a family of 2 earns 90,000,, it is saying that family of 5 is ahead. It is about GDP per capita.

2)  How is this incident even remotely comparable to fixing !!!!!

There has been an actual Covid outbreak among the support staff and players have been in close contact with the junior physio. And the incubation period for contracting Covid is not over.

This is a very real problem.

I have not drawn comparisons with fixing (Difficult to respond to random questions) ... I am concerned with players using this opportunity brazenly to arrive early in Dubai

I do not see any IPL team not playing the tournament if some of their players/support staff is tested positive. A negative test would allow players to continue.

If players are that concerned, they should not be flying to Dubai, showing no concerns of putting their family at risk as anyone of them could have COVID. Because of such brazen behavior, it is difficult to take such seriously:

Rohit Sharma, Jasprit Bumrah and Suryakumar Yadav along with their respective families were flown in to Abu Dhabi from Manchester on Saturday morning, announced Mumbai Indians. The trio, who were part of the Indian squad in England, will undergo a six-day quarantine before beginning their training for the match against CSK on September 19, the day IPL 2021 resumes in the UAE - Link

Yes, if it can be proven. Now, it is all hearsay and conspiracy theory. Yes, they went early because the more they stay in that hotel , who knows how many gets affected.

not in any way connected to what happened here. You think they are giving excuses to not fight to get an elusive series victory?

Unfortunately, not many buy into such brazen behavior. As mentioned earlier:

you mean to say this was preplanned? As I said there was no point in sticking around after the cancellation

Oh BTW, this too happened …

The players could have utilized on the opportunity.

People know that it is difficult to reschedule games at a short notice. For e.g. in LOIs, if a final gets washed out and there is no reserve day, the game is not postponed to account for a day with good weather.

One thing I am seeing in the last 20 years is that a lot of work is going on to solve these issues.

Since the situation was dire till 1990 or thereabouts, it will take a bit more time to rectify many things fully.

What very high absolute GDP means, when you compare it to what it was 20 or 30 years back, is that people are really working hard towards achieving productive things in life these days.

Getting to a healthy per capita GDP is the next step.

Initially, this bit of news seemed strange. But if you go through it ... they were flown using a chartered flight and did not come in contact with the general public ... RT-PCR tests were conducted both before boarding the flight as well as after landing and both were negative for all the players ... they will observe the requisite quarantine in Abu Dhabi. This seems like acceptable precautions.

Let's say they played the match and were negative before the start of the match but turned positive mid-way ... what would happen to the player and the team ??

Two very different scenarios.

The UAE version had many players in isolation like Gaikwad ... The Indian version was held in difficult circumstances where people even questioned if it should be held

Yes, negative ... ok to travel, ok to play

The fact that they suspended such a big tournament after 3 or 4  Covid positives means they have practiced the same thing in both IPL 2021 and England 2021.

I explained how its not the same. It might have been ok if it was a single ODI or T20I.

A Covid negative player may turn positive within the incubation period ( because of close contact with the infected physio. )

And this might happen bang in the middle of the test, leaving the team in total disarray and confusion.

Talk logic. If you are close contact of a Covid positive, would you be playing cricket or isolating yourself worrying that you don't become positive.

Travel in a chartered flight isn't equal to play.

You are not getting it at all. Not close contact of Covid positive would have the courage to play. Anyone who has gone through Covid scare would understand it.

India was in a COVID mess, struggling to get even 50% of its population vaccinated. There is a reason why IPL and T20WCs are not being held in India.

The situation in Eng is not the same. The world has moved on. It hosted Euro recently. More and more population is getting vaccinated. Currently ppl with 2 jabs in UK are at 66%. Most cases are now likely to be among unvaccinated.

There are so many possibilities but that is not how things work in real world. If I want to travel internationally to approved destinations, I would just need a covid negative test, along with maybe being fully vaccinated per respective countries' requirements. Does not matter, what happens in next day.

All cricketers are playing in a similar environment. English players share the same risk as Indian players including getting COVID from Indian players and vice versa. If players are COVID negative, they are expected to play. If it was dangerous, ECB, which even put Archer in quarantine for breaking a minor protocol, would itself propose to cancel the test.

I understand the drama being done here including when players feel like eating out, they ignore protocols in Aus, when players feel like being in time for IPL, they create mountains out of molehills.

But the moment there are actual Covid cases in the dressing room, despite getting vaccinated, the situation doesn't remain that different. The players can go into a panic mode.

I have had COVID and I understand the drama being done here.

Travel is for few hours. Test is for 5 days. Even single player testing positive midway through the test would have ensured cancelled test. Anyway I don't understand since most of Indian coaching contingent was quarantined, it was an impossible scenario for players to play. It just doesn't happen. Whole IPL got cancelled when Covid positive cases were detected. Here it's just one test.

I was seriously suprised when in the morning news came out that match will go on. How could it have been possible when physio who was attending all the players tests positive! All other staff were already in quarantine. Sheer stupidity of the people.

And in the "panic" mode they went happily to UAE

One needs to understand the how different countries operate, professionalism level, and so on.

All that is conjecture. The fact is that the players are COVID negative. English players are at equal risks.

Developed countries have all managed sportings events relatively well whether it is Euro or Tokyo Olympics. ECB will handle crisis relatively well.

On the other hand, India has had to move its premier domestic tournament and T20WC to UAE.
