Coal Shortage in India

How?

Mining and essentials were functional even during the second wave. Industrial usage was minimum, so if anything there should be a surplus.

This shortage is mainly due to the issues ( and the bull run) of the imported coal. China is buying a lot to meet its short falls. Australia and Indonesia have had dismal years production wise.

India produces 70%+ of its coal needs. Unlike most other countries it is not a net importer of coal. Strange the way this situation is currently at. My guess is that coal production has gone down and went into sluggish mode during the lockdown due to the lack of need for coal. Now that things are headed towards normalcy - the logistics are not in place to cater to the demand. A case of apathy from the bureaucracy.

His numbers may be inaccurate, but at least he is expressing concern in contrast to the central government, which is in denials.
There will be some shortages presently, but exact figures are uncertain.

shortfall could be due to a lockdown we had earlier this year.

Creating panic by saying coal is left for just 1-2 everyday is nothing but a cheap attempt.

Other states are also raising concerns be it congress ruled state, but BJP state or left state, but no one is trying to create panic like that. Only AAP resorts to such cheap tactics, why is that?

India produces 80% of coal, 2nd largest producer, but imports (third largest importer) after China and Japan. Of much it is due China’s local produce is not known. India can stop some exports and fulfill its demand due to elevated economic activity post Covid 2nd wave

I see this as pre-emptive attempt to alert this sleepy government , albeit the minister should  have been a little more circumspect in his wording, as it could have caused unnecessarily panic.

I guess type of coal is the reason for import.

Nothing new from AAP on expected lines. Once an arsonist always an arsonist.  They have a track record esp during COVID. They kept claiming O2 shortage and when HC appointed a auditor, they claimed they have surplus and wanted to give it to other states in need.

15 thermal plants don't even a day of reserve left. They are using whatever is coming

Where does it say that all power plants supplying electricity to Delhi has reserve of only 1 day?

Moreover, AAP has been spreading rumors since 9th Oct and doing it regularly.

There is a shortage, no doubt about it. But a minister should not be trying to spread rumors and create panic among population by lying.

Typical Hit and run tactics by AAP ,make a hue& cry about a issue instead of resolving it ,do R@ndi Rona everyday and blame the CG .

They can't run a government, RTI answer says zero flyover, zero Hospital ,zero school ,zero college in the last 6 years ,Riots caused by party workers ,horrible unemployment rate (Adhoc teachers never made permanent till now) ,Fiscal deficit doubling from 1500 crore to 3.2k crore in 2019 .

Waah kya development kiye sirji !
