The linked article shows he was asked his opinion on a tentative / possible appointment.  That’s the Press doing it’s job but where does it leave Kohli?
 

Had Kohli welcomed it, people would have gone after him for usurping BCCI’s authority.  And short circuiting the official process. 
 

Some would have accused himself of being less than gracious to Shastri. 

 

IMO he took one of the few reasonable options open to someone in that position.  

We fans rightly expect excellence from our players but that isn’t a reason to criticise someone randomly just because you don’t like them.

I think the appointment letter is not out yet, and there is no clarity over this.

Just in time to cement his place in the team for another 4-5 years. Will have a solid 1 year run, then the form will start to dwindle for couple of years, then he will be carried as baggage for another year b/c he's a statistical GOAT. Retire at 37-38. Play two more seasons of IPL  after that
