This guy is a tumor in the team. Nothing less. 

 

Power control, power play, calling the shots and having the last word on everything that matters -- this is his primary focus.

I don't think Kohli would be happy with whats going on behind the scenes. I don't see Kohli being in charge of any of the formats within a year, his control over the dressing room, his form as batsman and his support in the main office is all but gone.

That said, I doubt that they'll touch Kohli's captaincy in ODIs and Tests until after 2023 world cup. 

 

Would have loved to see Rohit get the reigns for a few years before there is a clear leader in the younger lot.

As much as we dislike him and for solid reasons,  if humiliating him, even going to the extreme case of dropping him could result in getting in him returning with vengeance and bringing on his best batting -  i am all up for it.

 

When he was in that beastly batting form - he was in a league of his own.  But if he is way past that prime, then we should consider dropping him for good if there are more deserving players in their early to mid 20s.

I don't think so. A world cup happens once in 4 years. A world cup matters a zillion times more than Rat's captaincy ambitions.

 

If they have made up their mind to find the best combination for the WC and start working on it - changing the captain would also happen.

Kohli will be 33 next month, Most batsmen do not regain form at all after 33.

What did we expect him to say on an appointment that’s presently not made official, and in fact exists primarily on ‘reportedly’  ‘he said, they said’ kind of news stories.  
 

The linked article shows he was asked his opinion on a tentative / possible appointment.  That’s the Press doing it’s job but where does it leave Kohli?
 

Had Kohli welcomed it, people would have gone after him for usurping BCCI’s authority.  And short circuiting the official process. 
 

Some would have accused himself of being less than gracious to Shastri. 

 

IMO he took one of the few reasonable options open to someone in that position.  

We fans rightly expect excellence from our players but that isn’t a reason to criticise someone randomly just because you don’t like them.

Did you even read what Kohli said? He said no idea what's happening on that front. No detailed discussion with anyone yet. If a coach was picked, captain would have been included in the discussion by BCCI.

They may not directly remove him but can do things that can make him resign in frustration. I think they have targeted him and want him out. Expect more leaks to the media, disagreements over selection, communication gaps, refusal of requests etc. Kohli is probably fed up with captaincy already, but he knows he can't quit now without much runs to his name. He is in desperate need of a few big scores so that he can quit captaincy on a high. Interesting cat and mouse game this, more interesting than the dull, safe cricket we play!

I am assuming you have the cognitive ability to understand that having “ no idea “ , and

“ no detailed discussions “  is two totally different things. 
 

He clearly knows that discussions on the finalization of the coach are happening behind his back and he just expects that the buck will should stop at him even in coach selection matters. 
 

He could do that with firing Kumble when he was in the form of his life. But with ZERO ICC trophies to show in so many years and his own form such that he is probably not deserving of a  place - it’s not going to fly.

He didn't say no idea. You are posting incomplete sentence. He said no idea what's happening on that front. If he doesn't know anything, why would he say anything else based on rumours.

Am sure thats that is how he was told to answer.  Look at the report, first it was Dravid is coach, then it was he was not given a choice but to become coach, now its under discussion. I have followed Indian cricket long enough to see every beloved captain eventually being termed tyrant. Ganguly was absolutely hated by fans during his last year, Dravid was smart enough to quit after WC debacle but whispers had started even before it. Dont have to talk about hate for Dhoni , Virat is there now and if you think it will change for next captain then you need to readup on Indian cricket.
