Usually I treat suggesting Pandya as captain as fun banter but since there are more than 1 voices now (to be more precise 2) that want Pandya captain let me entertain the thought a bit.

 

Pandya is in the team for the “balance” he provides. He can be the 5th bowler on a good day and 6th on most days. He is a good middle order slogger. Even though I do agree with a few other posters on his forum that he should be the no.4 bat as he does have a decent defense as well when playing straight. 
 

He has never been tried there and when or if he ever gets that chance it will he a fresh start. He will be like any other newbie justifying that opportunity.

 

He hasn’t been bowling fit for a while now.

 

One has to be blind to not see he has been down on confidence and has lost a little spring in his step since Srilanka. On top of that this forum isn’t the only place where he is getting absolutely trashed. It won’t take too much to prove that to you. 
 

Now do you seriously want to add captaincy to the top of all that burden and insecurities he already has?

 

Even if Pandya has a resurgence and eventually becomes a world beater people expect him to be with prime fitness, it would take him at least 3-4 years even before that thought could be entertained.

If I remember Pandya has batted at 4 in ODIs in the past, was MOS in that series against Aus in 2017.

If you exclude Kohli, Rohit, he is the best option in current squad. Pant has shown to be bogged down under captaincy pressure.

Same way, someone has suggested few months ago that making Pujara the test captain would ensure he gets back to form.  And there is a thread dedicated to it as well.

why not make chepu the ODI and LOI captain? his SR is on par with some of the tuk-tuks... [comment was meant as a joke in case anyone took it seriously]
