Nearly 35, not retaining Ashwin is a logical choice. Even Dhawan for the same reason should be back in the auction.

 

Shreyas Iyer will most likely have an opportunity to lead some other franchise now that Pant is DC's chosen captain.

At the current stage of their careers, Pant is a bigger star and looks destined to be the next superstar (if he remains fit). Will likely be among the the LOI captain candidates after 2023 WC. A better investment than Iyer who has fallen behind due to his injuries.
