Umesh, apart from the 2nd session on day 5, lacked intensity and pace. Just 2 wickets in the match. Old and tired pacers won't do. We need Bumrah. Siraj and Prasidh. 3. Consistent poor batting by Rahane and Pujara 4. Dravid has been very conservative as a coach so far. harsh on Umesh.Hes very good support bowler, specially at home. But needs someone like Shami,Bumrah and now Siraj to be spearhead. Or atleast better support than Ishant

Ashwin is 35 and Jaddu 33. Aur kitna skills chahiye. They have 650 wickets. England regularly provide us with green seamers. Same does nz. Infact only Aus has given us sporting wickets. Why do we have to create bunsen burner to get wins. They are good enough team for them not to depend on those wickets. . It was due to inept performance by two senior fast bowlers the match could not be won. Edited November 29, 2021 by putrevus

I didn't say a thing about the pitch. That's because if we doctor pitches to heavily suit spinners, our own batsmen will fall flat, like in the first match of the England series. It is the resting of the key players that I took issue with.

That is just nonsense, it was fast bowlers who were rested along with Kohli and Rohit.BCCI is one Asian board which cares about test cricket and FC .

Basically we are used to "doctoring" pitches at home for wins. We did not doctor the pitch enough? The darling spinners need more coddling at home to get wins with more doctored pitches? I am quite happy with the result. Exposes the myth and filth of Indian spin. I have seen Indian spin lay eggs vs Willis/Lever/Underwood/Grieg in 1976 to Qasim/Qadir in 1980s - heck even against a lone Lance Gibbs in Mumbai 1974/75 vs WI. No country expects heroics from pacers like India does abroad and treats them like step children at home with pitches doctored for the darling spinners. If the spinners are so great and so good ask them to win tests abroad as well like at the Gabba.

On the same pitch at times Southee and Kyle made the ball talk with new ball. Despite lack of assistance it was spinners that did the damage. rollingstoned 1

Yes they care about it when they're playing but they don't necessarily prioritize it over IPL or WT20, & BCCI are in it only for the money. Anyone thinking otherwise is a stupid *ing fool. T20's make the most money & BCCI will always prioritize that over tests or even ODI these days. We should just be happy that we are winning something, really anything major in tests - this might be the last time we can take nostalgia from such matches. Love them or hate them Pujara & Rahane are last of their kind, our test team will go down after these two & Ashwin, Jadeja retire. Our time at the top may be coming to an end & we'll really not have test specialists anymore, except maybe one or two. Do you think anyone can replace Umesh+Shami at home? While I'm not a particular fan of out of form players - we were hamstrung by the board deliberately over here! It looks like we were never supposed to win, with what 6/7 main players missing? This is a *ing joke & everyone of us is being taken for a ride nevada 1
nitinbwj Posted November 29, 2021 Posted November 29, 2021 Sidharth Monga had an excellent article up at CI regarding the dead pitch.
nitinbwj Posted November 29, 2021 Posted November 29, 2021 TBH I still think we could have won had we declared earlier. Also, only our batsmen were rested. All 3 spinners played.

A surprise late order resistance put us in a winning position. Their spinners could not trouble our lower order batsmen. Basically there was nothing on this pitch for spinners. So it had to be a combination of seamers and spinners not just spinners alone. putrevus 1

Play 3 spinners - Ashwin, Jadeja, Axar - and wait for the results there.

There were never going to be 110 overs, secondly as I mentioned elsewhere we could've slowed the game down & used pacers in the last hour or two if loss was on the cards. You think umps would take players off only if the light was poor for batting side? I mean for pacers there is a higher threshold & if we bowled pacers play could've ended at least half hour earlier. Overall with NZ wasting time on day 1, 3 & 4 we should've made every effort to bowl as many overs as we possibly could. A win was probably only 0.01% possible. We *ed up badly yesterday & Dravid should also be held accountable for this debacle

Second of all the nature of the surface doesn't suit spinners. Only subcontinent pitches are more helpful for spinners due to its abrasive nature. Ball is different. surface is different, bounce is different. It tends to favor seamers more than spinners. A reason why you don't see SENA spinners outperforming SENA seamers in their respective countries. Apart from Warne a once in a generation leggie not a single legendary spinner came from any of these 4 countries. Why do you think so?

Nobody complained about declaration yesterday. The timing was right, only thing maybe we could have batted more aggressively in last half hour leading upto it.
