why should they be banned? There is no cap on price in draft pick so this was always bound to happen. Players have a right to look for better opportunities.

Jadeja and Manish Pandey were banned previously for similar rule violation of under the table deal with a franchise.

there was no draft then. They were banned because of violating contract. Here teams have released Rahul,Rashid and the contract is over too.

They have been released today. Till then they were under contract. Players cant deal with other franchises before their franchise has worked out all the deal with them 

 

For eg, if new franchise didn't offer rahul 20 cr, he might have agreed to 16 cr with punjab. Draft can only come into the picture after retention list is officially announced

No doubt but Agarwal could be had for less in the auction. Since PK has just 2 players retained including an uncapped, it has no specific strategy and seeking to begin with a clean slate

they needed a captaincy option just in case. Mayank would have gone for more than 14 crores if not a draft pick.

Yeah as I said - "PK: Why even bother with Mayank unless he is expected to lead the team?" ... Not sure about him going for more than INR 14C.

MI retain SKY ahead of Hardik and Kishan

 

SKY ahead of Hardik and Kishan is quite a vote of confidence.  

 

I'd have expected them to go with Kishan there.  

 

But MI team is very ruthless and professional - maybe they do expect SKY to keep delivering stud results.  I still expect Bombay to 'match' or outbid for Hardik during the auction.  Maybe even Kishan - latter might end up in Lucknow possibly, but former is just going to get market priced and return to the Bombay Fold.

I think franchises dont have to stick to the amount they pay to retained players and these things are between player and franchise to negotiate..It is just that the said amount is deducted from the total purse, thats all.

Yeah, there are some options for replacing Kishan, especially if you are not a believer in his batting consistency.  If you think SKY  can sustain his output for 2+ seasons, then its obvious to retain him.

Good picks:

• Moeen over Faf -> Faf is 37 and will have less takers in the auction.. will surely be bought back.. Moeen would have gone for more than Faf in the auction
• All uncapped retentions - Arshdeep, Malik, Samad

Bad/surprising picks:

• Russell for 16cr - They didn't even play him in the final last year and remains injured most of the time.
• Mayank for 14 cr - Could have easily bought him for half that price in the auction
• Rashid not picked - Terrible decision unless Rashid decided to back out himself
• Siraj instead of Harshal - I might get brickbats for this, but I think Harshal might go for a lot more than Siraj in the auctions given his purple patch this year. They could have bought Siraj back in the auction
• Shahrukh Khan, Kartik Tyagi and Bishnoi not retained for 4cr... Maybe SRK choose not to be retained in anticipation of a larger bid in the auctions
• Stokes not retained for 6-8cr (assuming he is back to playing cricket)

 

Expected picks:

• Virat, Maxwell, Rohit, Kane, Pant, Samson by their respective franchises
• Dhoni, Jadeja, Ruturaj for CSK.. Dhoni was clearly for non-cricketing reasons - brand image, back to Chennai hype
• Venkatesh Iyer, Shaw, Bumrah, Narine, Chakravarthy
• Nortje (although he is untested in India)
