IPL Retentions 2022

Overall, below are good picks:

  • DC: Went with two strokemarkers in Pant & Shaw, while keeping a pace bowler in Nortje and an accurate spinner in Axar
  • KKR: 4 useful T20 players esp. if T20 heavy weights like Russell and Naraine can show good form. V Iyer and Varun C are useful in the format
  • RR: 2 match winners in Samson & Buttler, along with the youngster Jaiswal
  • RCB: Kohli (as batsman not captain), Maxwell, & Siraj

Overall, the below could have been better:

  • CSK: Moeen & a young Ruturaj are positive picks. Dhoni & Jadeja are legacy picks. Jadeja' bowling may work at Chennai
  • MI: Bumrah & SKY, who brings 360 degrees game, are good picks. Rohit is ok. Pollard if he is not past his best
  • PK: Why even bother with Mayank unless he is expected to lead the team? Arshdeep not bad as he is uncapped
  • SRH: Kane is ok. Samad and Malik are uncapped but SRH I am not sure is a good place for players with an attacking mindset

PS There are a lot of good players in the auction pool so will be interesting to see how the two new franchises shape up.

SRH release Rashid and Bairstow

MI retain SKY ahead of Hardik and Kishan

Thing is Rashid wanted to be first retainer instead of Williamson and they should have agreed. KW retained as first. They were giving Rashid 2nd place. Rashid and Rahul may get banned for one year.

RR could have retained Kartik Tyagi as well along with Jaiswal. He is arguably the best young fast bowler in the country, atm.

Agree. Maybe worried about Tyagi's injuries (missed a lot of games for them). Did not retail Archer as well due to a lack of clarity over his injury.
