Ashwin should be the vice captain ahead of Rahane. Rahane despite sucking balls in every condition (including India) got to be the VC. Rohit was an uncertainty in the XI until a last couple of series vs England. He is the VC now. Instead he is struggling to find a spot in XI.

He played 2 tests and got just 7 wickets in the series

 

Dropped for the 3rd test, and India won assisted by some fine bowling by Bhuvi

 

I think this time around, he seems to be in a better headspace and I am sure Ashwin will lead the Spin Attack

Will definitely miss the balance Jadeja gives at 7 and Gill would have been a wild card on those bouncy wickets with his backfoot play. Now we have to endure Poojara and Hahane for all the 3 tests.. 

 

But happy that Ishant won't be there. Siraj will definitely get all 3 games.

Rahane was given vc after the aus series in 14/15, before the eng series in 16/17 after 30 test matches he averaged 51 with 8 test centuries, he should bee 

have been dropped after the 2018 eng series but carried on, the guy was getting his career back on track, played well in the wi series away, then at home against SA and bang, looked clueless against Wagner in the NZ series just before covid, psychologically he seems to have drafted off since then, Ashwin should have been made VC in 2016 itself.

Ashwin should have picked all 10 wickets you reckon? He was the best bowler on show, on a slow track like that even if you spin it square taking wickets is difficult, if not for the drop catches of ashwins bowling India would have won.

Rkt Bhai should stick to uploading videos of young pacers, according to him every other young u23 seamer in India is some 145kph demon. Nikhil kohli, Mustafa, Vijay Kumar are all express merchants but in hindsight medium pacers, Ashwin has proved himself everywhere now, except the Southampton test in 2018 he has been good everywhere.

Have you never seen Kumble having strike rates of 150, 200 in so many matches. Kumble on a minefield of Bangalore pitch went for close to 5 an over.WIlted under the onslaught of Afridi and Younis Khan. Next day Afridi bowled like shane warne on the same pitch. Then again on day 5 pitch at Mohali couldn't dislodge Razzaq and Kamran. Ashwin's worst strike rates in two matches are barely above 100 that includes over seas. that too couple of times. Kumble has had several far worse matches. Yet he was our no.1 choice bowlers. He bowled like 74 overs in Srilanka. Couldn't get rid of Jayasuriya .  There is not a spinner in the world who didn't have to work hard to take wickets in some match or the other.

This is Australia. Clearly no finger spinner enjoys here. Yet he bowled beautifully. Set up Smith atleast twice beautifully.

Which "catches" - there was only one of Pujara IIRC? He's always been found wanting on such wickets! Delhi 2015, Chennai 2016, Ranchi 2017, Delhi 2017, Kanpur 2021 - all of them Jadeja performed better than Ashwin.

Dude, can you stop making up facts to defend Ashwin. I watched all 5 days of that match at Chinnaswamy, was a perfectly fine day 4 -5 wicket. It was our batsmen's incompetence to survive on day 5 when the pitch had some variable bounce.

Ashwin was terrific in the eng 2016 series, non of those were spin friendly wickets, infact even the SA series in 2019 Ash was at his best, it's the drift, dip and consistency in length is what makes Ashwin special. Delhi 2015? He picked up a five wicket haul and won the test for India, bangalore 2016 against aus Ashwin was the standout, bangladesh 2015 one off test in Dhaka, road like pitch, Ashwin again with a five wicket haul. Chennai 2013 flat pitch, slowish track, dhoni smashed and co smashed Lyon around, ashwin 12 wickets in the test. His debut test in Delhi again a great batting track, Ashwin picked up a five wicket haul in the second innings, Mumbai 2016 against eng, flat road, Jayant yadav scored a century, Ashwin on day 1 picked up 4 wickets and 12 in the test

Bowled well in 2014 too, miss stumping by Saha in the 4th test 2nd innings, should have had a five wicket haul.
