why do folks fixate on age instead of skills and present form?

which bowler is ready for test cricket that you want to replace these "old" names with?

Umesh is wayy too erratic and Ishant is pretty decent but only in SENA. both are around 34 y.o each and aren’t viable long term investments anymore. Have to look to groom bowlers such as Prasidh Krishna (good height + pace + swing), Avesh Khan (same features), and some left arm seamers ASAP

India threw Ishant into test cricket well before he was ready, and it ruined him for 5 years.  It was fortune for India and Ishant that he was able to mature and come back as a test class bowler down the road.

You talk about Umesh being "erratic" - both Prasidh and Avesh haven't really demonstrated that they are even at his efficacy level with the red ball, forget about being better.  I'm all for focusing on developing the next batch, and players like Avesh and Prasidh should be given maximum opportunities to develop and strengthen their case.  That's what Ranji and A tours are for.  Covid has put a stop to that and this is a bigger problem for Indian cricket than most folks realize.

Lets give atleast 20-25% of chances to names like Prasidh,Avesh,Tyagi etc that Ishant have got(especially) and Umesh too

Are we distributing mithai peda, or talking about putting the best possible test XI on the ground?

1)  it is important to give exposure to young fast  bowler in abroad condition that will make them learn lot of stuff.  Hazelwood was kept in Australia squad when he was around 23 they kept him in the squad which helped him  learn from his seniors. What is use of keeping grandpa bowler in the squad  for every overseas tour ? We should have mix of seniors and youngsters.

2)we have to find out

Ishant sharma when he  started his career against Pakistan was bowling max 139 speed but after going to australia he was bowling 145 plus to ricky ponting. We have to find some new talents.

Ishant was very good at the start with great a t inswingers. But him playing ODIs screwed him up. Then IPL. Dhoni further ruined it. Became short and wide Sharma under him.

For some it is always about people who are not playing in playing eleven. Saini was flavor of month till last year, we all saw how onderful he was in Australia. Now it will be someone else. The list will keep on going.Prasidh is now flavor of month.

Ishant in recent years has been consistent in what he brings to the table.

Ishant is clearly struggling, fitness wise pace wise

Going by your logic, changes shouldn't happen ever, right?

So without seeing them perform on field you have come down to "best" or "worst"?

Neither Avesh nor Prasidh have put up numbers in FC at the level that Siraj did.

Coaches and selectors aren't just sitting around eating Halva puri.  I trust Dravid and Co's judgement on whether Prasidh/Avesh are ready for test cricket or not, rather than the rantings of a youth-obsessed fan forum 'analyst.

You are advocating for changes to the world's best bowling unit - and that too "without seeing the younger players perform".

Changes are happening, Siraj is core bowler for this team, so is Thakur. Siraj is ahead of both Umesh and Ishant in pecking order.Moronic changes are not needed.

Ishant has lost match fitness starting early 2020. Keeps breaking down and even when he plays, he is just floating the ball up in the last 18 months.

He was a much improved bowler from 2017 to 2019 and was a key bowler for us then. But that golden period is now gone due to fitness issues.

He should have been replaced already.

Umesh was always a hot or cold bowler .... and still remains so. Great one day and extremely poor the next day. Loses intensity for no apparent reason and then suddenly bowls some great balls.

It is time we found a replacement for him too.

The next in line are Prasidh and Saini.

Yes , offcourse FC numbers

Unadkat will make the cut for you

How many matches did Bumrah play for Gujarat before playing red ball cricket for India

Offcourse Dravid knows it, aren't we supposed to discuss about upcoming prospects

Changes are moronic when its not obvious,

Yeah,a side boasting Ishant,Rahane,Pujara and struggling Kaptaan altogether doesn't need moronic changes,:winky:

If Siraj was not injured Umesh and Ishant would be sitting on the bench. Nothing wrong with both of  them sharing their experiences with young guys. Everyone knows what Umesh and Ishant bring to table.Playing for test cricket India in test is not some charity where in people will be given chances of 5 to ten tests or play against weaker teams. What does it it prove if they do well against weaker teams.

These young guys have many other aveneues to show case their talent and push for their selections. Forced transition is not  needed especially for fast bowlers injuries will always play their role.
