Dhoni didn't have any great performance overseas. Pant has hardly played anything at home.

Not saying that Pant hasn't surpassed him. But just pointing that Dhoni was not a bad test player. He was pretty fine. Didn't he helped his team won a test match in England in 2007? He has some noteworthy performances although not a hundred overseas. The likes of Prior, McCullum, Watling etc have similar averages but they all belong to good cricketers league.

err. the comparison is funny in my opinion. Dhoni as a complete cricketer was much better in tests. Pant is miles behind. Lets wait for Pants career to be over and then compare

Pant already has 4 100s SENA. What's dhoni's number?

Strange thread. Like there's a great debate surrounding this matter or Dhoni has set some impossible standard for others to follow.

Dhoni was the best wicketkeeper bat we had so far, so yea he had set standards

Well if people draw an India's all time XI in tests, most people still have MS keeping.. That's why the question. There is no doubt in my mind who is the better test player though

his captaincy and demeanor is nowhere close to Dhonis

I can agree on the demeanor but as far as captaincy is concerned, Dhoni is one of the worst test captains India had in last 4 decades. He is infact infamous for going with the flow and not able to push for results.

He ruined our test side. I remember him instructing Ishant to bowl bouncers just because it worked in the previous match.
