Guy has played some ATG test innings in his <30 match test career. People might say their averages are similar but Pant has only played 6 of his 28 matches in India and nearly 20 tests in SENA. The more he plays in India, that average will surely go up. Plus he is a left hander as well. Anyone still arguing for Dhoni? adi B, tweaker, Chakdephatte and 2 others 1 4

Ofcourse in subcontinent he was going to do well. Dhoni played in an era where his batting was a bonus. Pant is playing in an era where his contribution is almost a must. We will realize his potential when we have a strong top and middle order. Time is on his side. Lord and raki05 1 1

Whether that happens or not ultimately, this is actually the ceiling that Pant naturally aspires to. Not just some wicket keeper batsman thing.

Take an example, Rahane as a specialist bat averages 38 in Test Cricket. We won't have bashed him much had he kept wickets too or even be a Shastri level test bowler. Even 100 test wickets in his 80 tests career alongside 4900 runs he got would have been good enough.
