Secondly, we haven't won 'MANY' matches away from home chasing on day 5 don't know where you got this idea from? From the top of my head I can remember Gabba, 220odd vs aus in 2003 against a depleted Australian attack without Mcgrath warne and Gillespie (lol) and nothing in the 90s, so 2 in 3 decades? Is that how you define 'MANY'.? It is nonsensical to suggest that the backup bowlers of the all time great Australian attack were not proper bowlers. It is the same attack that had the so called great Indian batting lineup down at 85/4 after their ATG batting lineup had posted 550. To win from there and chase down 250 tells us all about how big that achievement was. Kohli's team would have bottled up in the 240 chase vs that attack too. Sorry not buying this, why was this the only instance of fab 4 chasing a score away from home, simple, third class bowling attack and no you can't say if Kohli’s team would have chased it or not. When you are facing brad Williams and Bichel even chasing 400 is possible.

Adelaide oval 4th innings chases are usually hard. Australia themselves got blown away for couple of low scores in 4th innings in Adelaide. It doesn't matter who bowls there. It is hard to chase there in 4th innings. Brad williams was bowling beautifully there. He induced an edge of Dravid, Gilchrist dropped him. He didn't even reach double digits then. diga Posted January 31, 2022 Posted January 31, 2022 After the scars of bridgetown test match where we could not chase 120, this was a big step up in Indian history... you should remember that the year 2000 we had match fixing allegations and our tours to SL,Eng, WI & Aus in 2002-03 helped in raising the profile of Indian cricket

Go back to what discussion I was having, it was specifically about SENA, Virat Kohli's India wins matches by a difference of innings in Srilanka so how could they chase there?

Easily one of the greatest all time wins in SENA by India. It was at the time Miracle of Adelaide, the sequel to the Miracle of Kolkata.

Bowling lineup of australia in that match - Brad Williams - avg 46 lol Andy Bichel - avg 33 Simon Katich lol Steve waugh lol Stuart Macgill - the only good bowler Gillespie was injured Thats a club level pace attack. Sorry but not, let alone the GOAT ASIAN TEST TEAM even the current Bangladesh team might chase it down with Shakib, Mushi, Tamim and Mominul.
Adamant Posted January 31, 2022 Posted January 31, 2022 2021 victory in Aus >>>>>>>2018victory in aus>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>2003 draw in aus. That team was so pathetic that despite the absence of Mcgrath, Warne,Lee and injury of Gillespie in a match they couldn't win the series, good lord. Bunch of overrated weaklings.

Yes,that wasn't ATG attack but was still decent ,but Indian batting was quite strong to defend 237 against A similar attack in same conditions (although conditions have become tougher for batting now),but still given the black hole in our batting, defeats from jaws of victory are pulled quite oftenly these days express bowling 1
Adamant Posted January 31, 2022 Posted January 31, 2022 The same team had a chance to finally win in aus in 2007 post the retirement of Mcgrath, Warne, Gillespie, Langer but what did they do? **** the bed as usual. Against an attack of Brad Hogg (a mediocre test bowler) Brett lee avg 32 Mitchell Johnson who was a spraygun in his younger days and Stuart Clarke a really good bowler they again somehow managed to collapse. But sadly this time they couldn't paint this all on bowlers, couldn't last a day against Michael Clarke and Symonds. The fab four faced the easiest bowling in the noughties in Aus coz on one tour Mcwarne lee were injured, on second tour they were retired and some scatterguns were playing, on the third tour they played against Hilfenhaus and Siddle but alas even they were too much for them!

That's your take Indian batting getting tamed by Mulder like bowlers today,im certain this batting line wouldn't have chased it against that attack as well They would have gifted wickets to Symonds/Katich,Mcgill like birthday sweets Edited January 31, 2022 by Suhaan

Let alone 2018 and 2021 we even batted well in 2014 courtesy Kohli, Rahane and Murali Vijay.

With the state of Indian economy & resources in BCCI that was monumental. 1983 WC win >>> 2011 for that same reason. Current team has feasted with every f*** thing available to them... All powerful board in BCCI a properly functioning domestic system. All of this wouldn't have been possible without the foundation those guys laid... Future Indian sides may leave current sides achievement in the dust. It's how sports works. Sports is directly linked to economy. Suhaan 1

Bhai we are talking about 2003 not 1903, BCCI was powerful at that time too, definitely not as much as nowadays but there was no lack of resource, all our players were paid handsomely. Yes the guys from 1983 had different challenges, don't compare them to 2003 era, in the noughties our cricket was wealthy and they weren't laying any foundation, they themselves were standing on th foundation laid by the likes of Mankad, Hazare, Manjrekar, Bedi, Gavaskar, Dev etc.

Dude one bowler being good in a single match was not outlandish. You are merely looking at the scorecard and forming your opinion. Same match Agarkar ran through the great Australian side. There was on Adelaide match where devon malcom and chris lewis neither of them were greats ran through Australia in the 4th innings. He was reversing the ball. In Australia lesser average bowlers can be very good on a given day. Dean Headley was another guy, India won Perth test due to Irfan pathan's bowling and he was the man of the match. Peter siddle averages 30 in his career. He ran through India's much vaunted line up in that 4-0 white wash series. Mike whitney is another guy who had a distinctly average career took 7 for 27 against us in Australia.
