Once upon, Ishant Sharma did not want to be branded as a test specialist and now, he is dropped from the same format.

Got reminded of this thread I opened on IPL forum.

Once, he was considered as test specialist. I really wish he retired instead of being dropped.
I really hope he will have one final swan song before he hangs his boots for good in international cricket.

He should not have skipped the Ranjis as they are the only life-line he has to make a comeback.

Yes he is dropped but even Sehwag, Gambhir, Bhajji were also dropped.

Look he has been a decent bowler for India over the years, but like all these geriatrics, there comes a time and place to retire and leave gracefully.

 

Lets face it, I could post Kapil Dev's stats and Im sure the last time he played he has an ok record, but at the age of 63 doesnt mean he should be playing for India.

kapil was a poor bowler in terms of wkts per match for last several yrs of his career. too many of our bowlers have played on too long. ishant joins the list. he was a top bowler for 3-4 yrs, but that does not mean he should continue to be selected.

I will give Indian and Asian bowlers a maximum of 7 years in prime. Starting from 25-32. Dump them after. They get to haughty due to amount of clout and wealth they have accumulated. They become very arrogant due to our celebrity worshipping culture. 

 

Only freaks like shami and bumrah should be given extended runs. When they are old don't hesitate to rotate rotate. Shami is old now. Play him one game with full intensity and then rest him. Indian board has no brains. Clearly shami was struggling for pace in the second innings of first test vs saffers yet they continued with him. He would have fired on all cylinders for the third test if he was rotated for game 2.

He was awesome for the first 5 years of his career and so-so for the next 10. Was probably 3-4 years overage because he was officially just 24 captaining the team to a world cup win in 1983!
