Still should be nowhere near the Indian team. He had a disappointing FC season and also was exposed during his international career.

much better than SKY and Iyer long term.

Played only 3 games in India. Mostly overseas that too in and out and at various positions

Apparently long enough to hang himself with it

I wonder if he committed Seppuku, in the Ranji, to save himself from the embarrassment of not being selected in the BG trophy even as a reserve! Tbf to him he could've replaced at least one of Rahane/Pujara/Brat in the last 3 years because all of their performances sucked King Kong b**** :whack2:

Hanuma vihari had his chances to cement his position in the two lanka home tests where everyone scored for fun but he messed it up. He then went to england and in both innings couldnt contribute. But all would have been forgotten if he took that Bairstow catch and made england 150/4. That would have turned the match.. he dropped it.. iyer seized his moments against lanka and nz..

Iyer failed in England too.

Anyone can fail in a series or two. Not a big sample size.

Exactly. 3 Tests in India batting at 3 against the most halwa bowling attack that he will get to play in generations. He got plenty of chances. 6 Tests in Aus and his average is only 20. 16 Tests averaging 33 with only 1 century, that too against one of the weakest WI side ever. How many players get so many chances? At the start of a career, often you only get sporadic chances. Iyer got 100 on debut, yet got only sporadic chances afterwards. Vihari hasn't quite set the Ranji season on fire either. He had a pretty poor run this year. Compare that to Sarfaraz who has been setting the stage on fire season after season.

Vihari was instrumental in both BGT wins in Aus. in 2018, he opened which wasn't natural to him and saw off new ball. in 2021, there's Sydney which only goes down as 23 runs in stats but we know the quality of knock.

Iyer is good player of spin and an asset in India, but in SENA he'll be exposed easily.

Agree about Sarfaraz, he should have got in ahead of SKY atleast.

Vihari is weak against bounce. He is not a flamebuoyant player. There are times you have to score quickly to shift  the pressure back on the bowler. He can't do.  He is more like Pravin Amre. Laxman  despite a poor ODI player, can score quickly in Tests. He is not a pedigree batsman.  Shreyas Iyer strike rate even in first class is 80.

Iyer saved our asses against nemesis NZ and more recently in Bangladesh. He may not shine in SENA conditions but for rest of the world, he is a certain starter. Vihari must outperform him by a big margin in SENA to start ahead of him, don't think he has it in him. Also as rightly said by others, Vihari is a one gear batsman, Iyer OTOH can change the game in one session much like Pant.

Vihari may never play for us again but he will be always remembered for his heroics in Sydney 2021, his 20 odd runs (in 50+ overs) there were worth more than a daddy 100 !!!!! SCG day 5 escape was what mentally/physically broke the Aussies, we reaped the benefits in Gabba.

Iyer may do really well in SA...  Time & again we see fast scoring folks do well there.  Iyer has solid square cut  backfoot punch & has the intent.

Him Gill & maybe even Rohit will be very crucial to us breaking that jinx this December.

yeah Vihari is Pujara like. Flamboyance or high SR is not must in Tests.

Gill and Rohit are good v bounce. Iyer isnt. He ducks and takes eyes off even in white ball cricket in India

pujara had multiple gears for first 50% of more of his career. he was quite fast scoring against spin once he got set. veehari is more of a chetan chauhan
