Game nicely drifting away from Sri Lanka at the moment. Allowing 4 singles every over and not even attacking with close in fielders. This Abdullah guy has batted really well though.

More than a century of test cricket and its still doesn't seem feasible to predict whether a wicket will crumble on day 4, slow down & ease batting or stay the same. 

 

Day 4 is still further down the line, teams struggle with figuring out day 1 & 2.

Except India I think every team will fancy a 4th inns chase these days. 

Deadwood in our team is beyond horrible.  Lohli & Gujara need to be drowned in Bay of Bengal by now.

I think Test cricket too is going to become a 'win toss and chase whatever the target is' kind of thing now. Completely takes away the joy and thrill of tough fourth innings batting conditions.

I think Srilankan chase was epic.  there also pitch flattened. They counter attacked.

it was against a very good, albeit tired, attack. pitch also had something in it for pacers as shown by Lordy taking 7 in the match

with a few exceptions, most players were scared to bring what I call the "LOI mindset" to tests. players who could do that were matchwinners (even if inconsistent) - from gilly & sehwag in 2000s to trumper & jessop in 1900s. Nowadays, I think we are finally starting to see more such players subscribe to this mentality, and this in turn means that chasing even 400 becomes akin to doing so in an ODI without the added pressure of scoring it in 50 overs.

yes mostly the pitches 

 

Would still be mighty tough in India,even for Indian team.

I don't think he is as good player of spin as Javed. Javed was a world class player and one of the best ever players of spin. Javed was very good against pace bowling of WI. I would put Javed a class above Babar.

Didn't like that wicket at all. Will be kama if sl loses according to me. Hd Ackerman (?) was analysing it and also mentioned it was within the rules but not the spirit of said rules. 

Remember a handling the ball dismissal in a WI v Saf test match late 90s where I felt similarly.
