IPL owners are treating South Africa teams with the same mentality as Indian teams and Fans... instead of tapping into the culture of SA and naming teams based on cultural connections which the fan resonates too and give them a feeling of independence, they are literally wanting to create teams for their Brands business model... other fans arent as cricket crazy like Indians who will go along with whatever corporate BS goes on the IPL... this league will be a joke and people wont come to see it.

 

even in football foreign billionaires buy teams in Europe but they dont change the names due to cultural an historic reasons and fan connections to them. Imagine Reliance buying a football team in EPL and renaming it Mumbai Indians Chelsea (MIC)...

IPL owners really lack creativity and it shows in their franchise's moniker and branding. Carrying a similar moniker just seems to be a loud and attention seeking action to ensure the world knows who the owner of these franchises are.

The worst was Rising Pune Supergiant's just because the owners name was RPS Group, they HAD to incorporate this into the team name so the janta knows who the owners are... rising supergiant.. sounds like a euphuism for a pending penile erection or something

So far, Kochi Tuskers has been the only team with a good, representative name.

First they made cheesy stupid teams names like king super king royal etc then made cheesy gear. Now they export it and make ugly copies of themselves in other countries. Pathetic.
