Yes. absolutely.

But most importantly, what purpose does this match serve.

In WC 1999, in the super-six format, the teams from the same group do not play each other again.
The match from the league stage is directly accounted for as a match in the super six stage.

 

Same thing should have happened here. Now the victory against Pakistan in the league stage means nothing in this tournament.

The purpose it serves is that teams like India, Pakistan or Sri Lanka don't lose one match and are out of the tournament. Pretty much guarantees India reaching the final unless they screw up big time.

They fixed the format to have three India vs Pakistan matches. Sri Lanka looked good yesterday. Afghanistan can be handy too in this T20 Cricket. It is possible they may crash that plan of ACC. Sri Lanka match is must win for India. They will play tired Afghanistan as they playing Pakistan day before which is advantage for India.

This is just peak ICF when India loses to Pakistan.

Similar format was there in 2018. We thrashed them in both games.
