We don't have 11 world class T20 players.

Dont think any team around the world has that and thats the last thought u shud have while selecting a team. Select whatever best u have , at the end luck does play a role and we have seen many times in IPL that teams with many match winners have gone nowhere as compare to the ones with avg or utility players .

Also in t20 right skillset are enough even if u lack quality which becomes important for longer formats .

BTW, It pains me to say that Rohit should really concentrate on losing a few pounds. For more than a year his shot making has been cramped by his lack of swift movement that is needed for an opener and it has already translated into a string of not so great scores in white ball formats.

It's beyond time that he looks into that aspect of his game if he wants to stay in the team for the few years ahead that he may have in the team.

Btw, Moshin is not unfit. He could have been played v SA (esp. in the series after IPL) too. Below are selectors giving excuses:

"However, Mohsin's dodgy hamstring made the decision easier for Chetan Sharma's committee, which also picked Arshdeep especially for his death overs bowling for Punjab Kings."

  • 1st, it should not have been Moshin v Umran (both can be played)
  • 2nd, to "justify" Mohsin's exclusion, the selectors talked about "dodgy" hamstring (in a way, assuming that he could become unfit because his hamstring is seen as "dodgy" per past issues rather than looking at his current fitness)
  • 3rd, went with rewarding players who did well in IPL in earlier seasons like Arshdeep, who is not in the league of Moshin, who has a relatively higher ceiling

Below GG, LSG's mentor, on Moshin:

"The last match of Super-4 was played between India and Afghanistan on Thursday. In which the Indian team performed brilliantly with the bat and then the ball, defeating the Afghan team by 101 runs. Meanwhile, there was also discussion about the T20 World Cup to be held in Australia, in which Gautam, while giving his opinion, said that he wants to keep left-arm fast bowler Mohsin Khan in the team. Let us tell you that Mohsin was part of the Lucknow Super Giants team in this year’s IPL."

Get a better proof , this is totally rubbish

Atleast his injury has been confirmed by 2 sports journalist and he has an insta post from NCA

Players don’t go to NCA just because they are injured. For e.g. Bhuvi & SDP are at NCA too.

Tomorrow selectors can say that they have not picked Sundar because he has a dodgy fitness (based on past injury record) despite him being fit.

I don’t trust Indian set up. “Dodgy” is not confirmation of injury. Why don’t you provide better proof that he is injured (and has been since the last IPL game?)

What is out there? “Dodgy” is not a confirmation of injury. GG spoke about including Moshin.

Give proper details regarding his injury.

Don’t buy it as hamstrung itself has various grades. Don’t recall an incident where he was ruled out after IPL for a long time (IPL ended in May, so it is 4 months now). Was he in NCA in May? Why did the selectors/TM did not focus on getting him fit w/ the WC in Oct? … GG spoke about including him during Asia Cup.

That dodgy hamstring article was an old one and not from any official source. And it was probably recycled again later on as an excuse.when trundlers started faltering.

I will assume that is player is fit until I get some official confirmation of a break-inducing injury.

Fast bowlers are always carrying small niggles anyway.

Exactly!

If Moshin was injured in May (and selectors/TM that impressed, he should have been in  NCA straight away. They also unnecessarily made it Umran v Moshin).

When Bumrah had a back injury, he was practically out. But we were seeing unnecessary comment where he still had a chance (maybe to provide hope to fools who take everything at face value).

Moshin’s case is likely to be mishandled.

To further highlight the untrustworthiness of Indian cricket set up:

Article published on May 22ndLink  - "However, Mohsin's dodgy hamstring made the decision easier for Chetan Sharma's committee, which also picked Arshdeep especially for his death overs bowling for Punjab Kings."

The squad for the 5 T20Is series against SA was announced on May 22nd Link

On May 25th, Moshin actually played the eliminator v RCB: Link ... and in the game (the last for LSG):

BOWLING O M R W ECON 0s 4s 6s WD NB
Mohsin Khan 4 0 25 1 6.25 13 1 1 1 0
Dushmantha Chameera 4 0 54 0 13.50 7 8 2 0 1
Krunal Pandya 4 0 39 1 9.75 4 4 1 1 0
Avesh Khan 4 0 44 1 11.00 10 6 1 2 0
Ravi Bishnoi 4 0 45 1 11.25 8 2 4 1 0

Proved to be the best bowler for LSG in a high scoring game! (And selectors did not pick him citing "dodgy" hamstring concern in a squad selected 3 days before this game)!

PS like Arshdeep, Avesh was probably picked also considering his "past" IPL performances ... If IPL based selections have to have a meaning, we have to pick players currently displaying the best form.

Having observed Indian selectors for years and years, they almost surely decided their first choice 11 and their backups, well in advance, probably just after the IPL ended.

By looking at the T20I games played before the World Cup, especially the Asia Cup and the 2 series that followed, it was quite apparent that ....

The first choice bowlers almost surely were

7. Jadeja

8. Harshal

9. Bhuvi

10. Bumrah

11. Chahal

Backups

7. Axar

8. Deepak C

9. Arshdeep / Deepak C

10. Avesh

11. Bishnoi / Kuldeep

And being happy that they have made a fool proof plan with backups, they tried and tested mostly these bowlers only.

The fallacies of this plan are IMO ....

1.  The playing conditions in Australia were largely ignored while selecting this group of pacers. We have no tall hit the deck pacer in the squad whereas we should have had 2 or 3.

2. They did not question whether the first choice bowlers should be automatic choices, especially in Austrslia. They were chosen because they are the established bowlers for T20Is.

3. Whether like for like backups of the original choices were indeed needed or whether they could better the quality of those backups. and the bowling composition as a result.

4. With Bumrah getting injured in England, they should have created atleast 2 backups for this position as Avesh was untested and could fail.

5. Rohit said that, for Bumrah's replacement, they want someone who has experience of playing in Australia. So, why was Avesh tried for so many matches ?

6.  Who is Axar's backup now ?
