Kohli has been seen practising with focus and said to be back in form. In Aus, conditions for batting are expected to be good. So how many will Kohli score (excluding games versus associates) and at what strike rate, the most important factor for a top order (#1-3) batsman?

Poll closes on Oct 23rd.

The Strike Rate of Jos Butler is 144.
Looks like even he scores at below par strike rate.
This is the same guy who rates Rizwan as a top 5 batter despite him having 130 str rate

The IQ level of posters on this forum is deprecating day by day.

Self proclaimed experienced posters turning into freaking trolls.

Worry about your own IQ first (which no one is even interested in knowing)

2nd we are not discussing career SR but this competition.

Appears as if you think that you have to post nonsense when Kohli is discussed. Note that I don't see you as a Kohli fan or even a cricket fan.

In short, not interested.

Why would you be interested in an argument where you are getting ripped off, kicked and choked to submission.

Not a thread on your imaginations ...  I don't "argue" with fools!

I am done with his personal scores or player of the tournaments or orange caps whatever.

Just hope he doesn't stitch a match losing partnership for us like

1. 2014 World T20 finals (with Yuvraj and Dhoni 65 runs in last 10 overs)

2. 2016 World T20 SF (with Rahane 66 runs in 49 balls on the flattest track ever from 8th to 16th over when we are just 1 down)

Around 170 runs in 6 games.

Will definitely have one 70 odd..

One 30-45..

One single digit score (likely against SAF)

And a couple of 10-20s..

That would count (unless there are pressure/impact innings) as a failure esp. for a guy playing for so long in ICC events

At No.3 he would be pivotal, be it setting a target or chasing a score, low or high.

Just hope he comes fully into form now that he is in the team. I'd say around 200+ with a SR of 130/140.

Also hope he doesn't forget to remember Ben Stokes on the 23rd.

Below are Ind's games:

  • 10/23 v Pak at MCG
  • 10/27 v Group A Runner Up at SCG
  • 10/30 v SA at Perth
  • 11/02 v BD at Adelaide Oval
  • 11/06 v Group B Winner at MCG

Excluding an associate, we are talking about 4 group games v Pak, SA, BD, & WI, along with KO if applicable.

I am going w/ the conservative 1st option for both runs and sr. If he goes better, good!

Let's say on 170+ runs pitches, if Kohli plays  a total of 100+ balls in the group stage at a SR of <149, it could mean two things:

  • Ind is in trouble by having lost a few wickets or he is unnecessarily anchoring where Ind could end up with a lower than expected total or if chasing, the RRR keeps rising

or

  • the bowlers have done their job well where he can play accordingly

The 2nd T20 b/w Eng and Aus at Canberra is a good example of how even in relatively tough conditions/situations, teams got 170 or more ... On the night before, it had rained in Canberra, there were clouds and moisture too iirc. Below how the #3 went in that game:

Malan 82, SR 167  (his team was 54/4 at one point)

Marsh 45, SR 155 (his team was 51/3 at one point)

With Ind's bowling, the team would be targeting 190 or more against good batting sides if batting first.

His game has seen improvement in T20s and he seems to be playing fearlessly against Spinners as well. Plus, he was always good in Australia. So in the group stage, I expect at least FOUR 50s with 135 SR which might include another lucky hundred against WI/BD/Associates if openers dismissed in first two overs.

You can expect those scores from SKY not Kohli. He will score @ 130 sr at best which is useful if the others can score @ 150 plus

He plays well against Pakistan even in worst form. 30 to 40 against them. Apart from one major failure in CT final has done okay.  Against SA will edge one to slip for single digit score.

With SL now expected to join Group 2, there won’t be any associates in this group (unless WI loses in qualifiers to go to Group A or both are eliminated somehow).

In this case, all the games will count.
