When will we learn our lessons?

Recommended Posts

Time and again, it is proved that we need different brand of cricket to win T20s. But yet, Indian cricket team goes back to old way of playing T20s.

Sorry for the rambling..

1)Our selectors dont think ODI and t20 are two different cricket. Look at our team, almost everyone are part of ODI team and T20 team. We play with ODI mentality in T20s

2) Our brand of cricket is more tuned towards ODI cricket where we bat sensibly in the first 10 overs, and then go hard in last 10 with wickets in hand..If opposition plays the same strategy, we may have a chance, but if they go hard, we dont have a chance..

3) We select players based on their star power than the brand of cricket we want to play..No team can win a T20 tournament with three similar player who takes their sweet time before they go hard..We've tried few players at the top because these folks were rested, but when it comes to big tournaments, there is no way we can drop these guys, because we feel "big tournament needs big players" which has been proved wrong many times..

4) No batting depth..Need of one more batting all rounder who can bowl 2-3 overs in every match is missing. We only invested on Hardik which is giving the fruit now after all these years but adding lot of stability..Need to consistenly invest on multi faceted players and give them enough opportunity in both facets of the game so that they feel confident enough is missing..Bilaterals should be used for such experimentation..

5) Chose fearless brand of cricket..WE need out embrace the fact that our strength is batting, so bowlers may win few matches..But we dont have world beaters in bowling and our bowlers are injury prone so there is no consistency..So if we change our approach to embrace the english brand of cricket in T20Is, we'll have more talents available..Chose the player who stick to these brand of cricket, not the other way round..

I think our management has to start transitioning the team now for the next world cup..Hopefully we have seen the last of Kela, Sharma, Kohli and DK now.. Let selectos make it clear to these folks , otherwise they will always make a comeback in the big tournaments..

According to sources (hearsay) after Dravid's tenure,  VVS Laxman is set to become Indian coach. You know which brand of cricket we will be playing in future if rumours actually turn true in future.

We need Baz kinda coach to bring change in approach according to modern times.

we should get someone even slower for LOIs instead. maybe sunny G

The top 3 thing should change now in T20Is unless they are extremely shameless.

However, what I still don't understand is why didn't you replaced Axar with someone else given that Axar was performing poorly throughout the league games. They replaced him with Hooda but that means nothing because they ended up playing two off spinner.

Why no Shardul instead of Axar? And was it during the tournament that they end up realising that they picked Harshal unnecessarily that he can't replace a clueless Axar?

Or, why not go with Chahal- Hooda combo instead of Ashwin- Axar combo?

Shardul could've been tried instead of Axar for sure.
Hooda is different story, if he is there he is there as pure batsman,,Rohit doesnt trust him enough to give the ball..This was mistake and he should be made to bowl 2-3 overs regularly so that he improves his bowling. But we never bowl him even in bilaterals and expect him to be allrounder? So going with Hooda-chahal mean relying on 5 bowlers including Pandya which is risky if one of the bowler breaks down. So I agree we need 6 bowlers who can bowl, this is where we need to experiment more all rounders in bilaterals so that they are confident enough to bowl or bat..

Actually the reason why Hooda wasn't bowled is because India has Ashwin who is a better off spinner so using Hooda was restricted because when you already have Ashwin's over and you are looking for picking wickets, you go to Ashwin than Hooda especially vs lefties in middle overs and then from 15th over onwards, you no longer can use Hooda.

With Chahal bowling, they can chip in Hooda from othe end for an over or two. If they had no confidence on his bowling, there was no point of picking him in the squad at the first place. Guys like Shreyas and Samson are playing in T20s from 3-4 years and you decide to play Hooda ahead of those two then it has to be because he can give you a couple of overs.
