Honestly, I liked it even more after Santhanam left.. Jeeva was awesome as his replacement and way better than Santhanam

Vengsarkar was one of the best selectors. I think if I am not wrong it was him who wanted to make selectors a paid job. Too many useless players are applying for the job. They need to amend , these guys have to be selectors for their states or zones before they can apply.

Who is going to finalize the list?

he was a ruthless promoter of Mumbai, very regional and a shill for Mumbai cricket fraternity. So nope. Need pragmatic individual not pea brains that promote identities.

Which Mumbai player he promoted. Ishant,Kohli and other youngsters  were given chances during his tenure.

Selectors pay needs to be completely result oriented with very minimal base pay. The way it is structured right now, selectors don't have much incentive to pick winning teams. Rather they pick "safe" teams by making sure players who have significant clout in BCCI keep getting picked, while nominally dropping some others to just make it a point to show that they are taking some action.

Fact is that all 3 of Rohit, Dhawan and Kohli are no longer good enough to play in our first choice LOI team. We need to replace them with players from domestics like Yashasvi Jaiswal, Ruturaj Gaikwad, Padikkal, and others. Rahul needs to be strictly kept outside the top 3. He is completely useless in the top order. We need to play more dynamic cricket and not be stuck in this mindset and these 3-4 players will only keep staying as the core and others will be rotated around them to balance the team.

performance-based pay is a better option, but even there one must use the right metrics for performance. for example, winning percentage should not matter much as Ind often do well in bilaterals and suck in bigger tourneys

Totally with you there. Performance based pay should be only on the basis of significant wins.

E.g.

If we win a World Cup or World T20, each selector should get 4-5 cr

If we reach the final of a WC / WT20, then each selector should get 40 lakhs

If we win an away Test series in SENA, then each selector should get 2 cr.

If we win Champions Trophy, then each selector should get around 2.5 cr

No extra pay for inconsequential ODI / T20 bilateral series. Winning those is needed to be able to qualify for WCs / WT20s

Minimal extra pay for winning Home Test series against SENA (such as 10 lakhs per series win)

No extra pay for winning Home Test series wins against non-SENA teams. If we can't win those, selectors should be fired right away.

Minimal extra pay for other away series wins (such as 20 lakhs per away series win)
