sandeep Posted December 22, 2022 Posted December 22, 2022 apparently folks unable to have an honest discussion resort to sub-tweeting and bumping silly threads. Run from logic all you want, it is what it is.

I feel he should have at least played 10-15 Tests more. In the last 5 years he has only played 18 Tests but has taken 65 wickets at 21.49 and a SR of 39. Don't think any other team would have given a bowler with such stats such less Tests. Getting injured in Australia did not help his cause either. The performances of Siraj & Shardul at the Gabba pushed him further down the pecking order but even then he did well in the chances he got in England where he averaged 23 at a SR of 40.
speedracer Posted December 23, 2022 Posted December 23, 2022 As long as there are fans for bhukki as we have seen from uncles in this thread, India will continue to disregard talented pacers with bounce bowling ability plus speed.
tapandrun Posted December 23, 2022 Posted December 23, 2022 (edited) Not sure if he has time on his side to get to 200 wkts and adding to this he is not Ind's top 3 fast bowler (as mentioned by others as well). He is more like 4/5 option rt. now and god forbids he gets an injury his intl career will be done there. He and V.Aron were the first genuine quicks (145 kmph+) to play for Ind, both were rapid and found v.less support from the TM of that times and the lack of basic understanding of how to create a pace attack. A bit of understanding only came under Kolhi and Sashtri/Arun era. They understood that not all fast bowlers are capable of leading an attack, there are few who are good 3/4 or 4/5 bowler. I.Sharma improved as a bowler when he was the no.3 bowler who could bowl longer spells with some pace and may be some bounce without giving away much runs, that enabled him to concentrate on good line and get few wkts in the process. Yadav also gained his confidence when he was not pressured as the spearhead for the team, he was able to use his pace in Ind and at one time he as was the best reverse swing bowler, the problem he had or which I think he still has is that he bowls 2 balls per over down the legside which hits his economy badly. and he does not have a susceptible short/ bouncer ball. Aron had injury problem through-out his career, which was due to again lack of understanding about fast-bowling on TM and BCCI side, he suffered multiple stress fractures (he mentioned this in one of his interviews) If BCCI had a good program and support for genuine quicks both would have been able to serve well to Ind cricket, both were 145 kmph+ and if a bit of effort/support would have been put in these 2 they could have been ~150ish(not talking about 1/2 ball here or there which clocked 150 but able to bowl quick spells when needed). Both of them are still able to bowl 140+ is remarkable per Ind standards. Edited December 23, 2022 by tapandrun tweaker 1

deepdynamo Posted December 23, 2022 Posted December 23, 2022 I think he will reach 200 test wickets. Currently on 164. Lets assume he will maintain his fitness till 2025 India is playing 19 test including 10 home tests in WTC 23-25 cycle. Add 4 upcoming tests against the Aus. So thats 23 tests and with dodgy fitness of Bumrah and Shami, he will play about 10-12 tests easily ( being the 4th best test bowler in India) and get the 36 wickets her requote to enter the elusive 200 wicket club.

Likes of Umesh, Agarkar are wicket takers but are also susceptible to leak runs. When they're placed with 2 good bowlers they will work as a bond and will increase the striking ability. However, in subcontinent conditions, Umesh can play the role of "second in command" as well. Where spinners will do the magic and Umesh with his reverse will attack on other batters without worrying for the runs. Mosher and deepdynamo 2
Cloud9 Posted December 23, 2022 Posted December 23, 2022 Let's say if he is permanent lock at home tests then I think he will achieve it.
deepdynamo Posted February 12, 2023 Posted February 12, 2023 How about Umesh getting a game instead of Siraj in the next game? In India, he is as good as Siraj and also love to see him bash some monster sixes!!
