Umesh Yadav countdown to 200 Test wickets

Currently at 164 wickets at average of 30.2. In Asia, his record is particularly good but also has done well in England.

Can he get there and become 5th pacer from Asia to reach 200 wickets mark in this millennium after Zaheer, Vaas, Ishant and Shami?

He should've played 10-20 tests more & probably a lot more in LO cricket, why the * did we persist with limp d*** in tests & Bhukhe in LO for so long!

Are you seriously asking for Umesh Spraygun Yadav to be played ahead of Bhuvi in white ball cricket in the 2017-2022 timeframe?  Talk about spewing utter nonsense.

I am not in favor of playing umesh in white ball but are you seriously defending same bhuvi who couldn't get single wicket in first 40 overs of all worldcup 2019 matches? similar performance in 2017 ct, 2021,2022 t20 worldcup too and this has happened when opposition bowlers like shaheen, amir, boult, henry have run through our battling lineup on same pitch.

Umesh was the highest wicket taker in WC 2015, he was also the best pacer against Oz in SF on a uber flat deck at SCG & then we have the same usual suspects defending the eternal Knuckle Kumar since times immemorial - the same guy who was only played on green seamers in (tests) India or away! Yup, let's bring him back for the next WC as well :lollypop:

Top 3 wicket takers are all lefties! Arshdeep should play ahead of Knuckle Kumar even if he's bowling on one leg, if I see BK at next WC I'll spam the *ing BCCI handle till they drop him :hmpf:

Umesh was dropped for one bad game against SL, I totally blame Brat for this :whack2:

He bowled only in ODI's so he has a higher bowling avg overall. Just one bad game as compared to at least 2-4 from that malnourishment ad :bike:

Dhoni was the worst. He infact publicly criticized him after a match loss in SA.

Well our captains have always had their favorites, for one reason or another, but I'd expect at least cricket fans here to be more knowledgeable but alas :wp19:

Umesh Yadav is always a honest trier, and I have always liked him as a pacer.
Sure, he is erratic, he looses control every now and then, but he is always a bowler who when hit right tunes would be a handful.
He is athletic, don't get injured often, has mantained his fitness levels despite playing international cricket for more than a decade.
He is not super quick in field but does have a strong arm and I remember some of the key runouts that he has made possible due to his rocket throws, not to mention the way he has improved his batting as he was a literal tailender when he started (If anyone remember the partnership between him and Varun Aaron for the last wicket against WI, where Aaron was guiding him after every ball).

I don't see him reaching 200 Test wickets, infact when Shami, Bumrah and Siraj all 3 will come he will become the 4th pacer only to play when one of them is injured. But he is a wicket taker and despite his early failure in ODI's (had only 32 wkts in 30 games at one time), he actually had improved his stats by bowling some phenomenol spells later. We could have used him as a new ball/middle overs pacers but that is too much to ask for a brain dead management.

It will be fascinating to watch Umesh Yadav get to 200 test wickets and then it will be fun to troll our Padosis for not been able to produce 200 wicket pacer in Tests in this millennium...:phehe:

players have bad games, injury issues whatever - there is no question of "defending" bad performances.  But none of that changes the fact that over the 2016 to 2021 timeframe, Bhuvi was orders of magnitude better than Umesh in whiteball cricket.  Whether its ODIs, T20, IPL - the head to head comparison of Bhuvi vs Umesh is not even close.

Just because folks are disappointed with specific performances, or don't like Bhuvi's "pace", his skinny look whatever, does not change the facts.  The fact is that over the course of his career, Bhuvi has been a high quality bowler with that rare ability to move the ball both ways.  And to his credit, he worked hard on his fitness and increased his pace in the latter half of his career.  Its a different thing that like almost all fast bowlers he had his share of injury issues, and did not deliver the optimal results that we all would want.

But personal impatience and disappointment at not seeing a dominant 150kph bruiser play for India shouldn't obfuscate the quality that Bhuvi did bring to the team.  We can agree to disagree on whether he was given too long a rope etc - but again, that sort of subjective opinion does not somehow magically make Umesh a better white bowler than what he actually was.  Umesh was a consistently unreliable option in white ball cricket.  It is what it is.

I have a lot of regard for Umesh - he is a rare commodity in Indian cricket - a naturally gifted athlete who could have been a great workhorse bowler for India - his ability in subcontinent (also elsewhere) to bowl jaffas out of nowhere was/is special.  And I am very happy to see him continue to get test match opportunities - which I believe is his best format.  Fast bowlers for India should never be taken for granted and Umesh for me, deserves to be respected for what he has brought to the team.  But so does Bhuvi.  Yes, I do have a fondness for Bhuvi that may bias my personal judgement at times - but that's natural.  All of us have such tendencies.  Personally, I place a high value on pace bowlers who move the ball, especially both ways.  And a guy like Bhuvi, who can move the ball so beautifully, and that too making it almost impossible for batsmen to read him from the hand - that's a rare special ability, one to be treasured.  This guy was MVP for India's test series in England once - delivering with both ball and bat.  He reduced South Africa to 12/3 in the first test in SA in a 3 match series - and if not for a gettable slip catch dropped by thigh-slapper Dhawan would have had a 5-fer that dismissed SA for under 200.  As it played out, ABDV was able to rescue SA and drag them close to 300, and that extra margin of 80 odd runs lost India the test match - in a series that we lost 2-1, and could have easily been 2-1 in our favor.  Folks forget all this, they brush away how consistently good Bhuvi was for more than a year around 2017-2018  when he raised his pace to 140, and was bowling yorkers at will.  Sure he slid down from his peak after that, and did not deliver what we would want.  But that doesn't make random never-weres like Saini, etc 'better' than him.   Fickle fans and their kuch nayaa lao syndrome is what leads so many to vent their frustration on Bhuvi - not fact-based criticism.
