Definitely. Different metrics should be applied to each position. Slip fielder for example should require less rigorous fitness tests to pass compared to a fast bowler / outfield player.

no one can be slip fielder alone. Even that requires quick reflexes

Test cricket is primarily a skill based XI, can't have one size fits all approach.

For most of their careers the likes of Pujara, Ashwin, Shami were never the fittest, but remain stellar contributors to our test dominance. All these years they had durability, resilience, mental toughness to last 5 days, can't say the same about many gym rats in Indian cricket. Kaif was supposed to be a supremely fit guy but cramped often, Viru was a teddy bear and never broke a sweat in his marathon knocks. Kohli drops 5 catches in a session, how out of shape were Laxman/Warne who used to gobble up everything in slips?

Cricket isn't like field hockey or wrestling, especially the longer format....more like a marathon, a test of endurance. And concentration, the mental part trumps everything else.

Fully expecting Pant, Shaw, Sundar, Sarfaraz to fall prey to this latest bout of stupidity by BCCI.....good luck building a test XI without these 4.

Well are these fitness tests really that tough? It’s not that they are asking them to do some gymnastics maneuvers. Hit the gym / train and get fit.

It is less than what NZ has to pass. It is fairly simple. Ashwin has aced this test. It is easy for a regular person.

India has the lowest cut off. NZ has the highest cut off which is 22. Then we shouldn't be whining about slow moving fielders, slow runners on the field.

What's the point of the Test if someone like Ashwin also passes it easily

He probably prepared himself well.  That is why we shoudl question those who don't pass even this.

Lol that’s embarrassing. I dint think the shape of that plot will be exponential. I would have assumed higher distances should have less speed or more time requirements. Assuming speed levels are linear and not some scaled version

its a fitness test. If people are able to game it with few days 'preparation' then its not worth it.
