Iyer vs SKY in ODIs

[Need4Speed]

With Rohit,Kohli,Rahul,Gill and Pandya fixed..it will be a toss up between Iyer and SKY in the final xi.

Its unfortunate as Iyer is doing well in ODIs and SKY needs to have a look in...Primarily because we lack firepower now with Pandya shifting to consolidation too.

Ideally I wanted Rahul to be out to make way for Iyer but that will be a distant dream..

Iyer is the only one among the list that gets selected on merit. Making him compete with another X factor will be a travesty.

Iyer has shown top shelf temperament even if he doesn't have SKY's batting ability.  They both need to be in India's first choice XI.

If there is a choice b/w two, SKY, if in form, as he can win a team a tournament.

As far as ODI goes Iyer will be preferred always because he is the only one who can protect the panauti retirement village consistently down the order. Then there is Samson.  But SKY has to be part of the side neverthless. Can play the role of Raina.

Even as a batsman SKY is in a different league. Iyer has issues relatively. 
 

Now if SKY starts to play for a position in the team, his record will improve in bilaterals too. He plays for the team and to challenge himself.

Irrespective of ODIs & T20s, Iyer v Samson (not as a WK)  is probably a more competitive comparison, where Iyer can be a relatively more consistent batsman, while Samson a relatively more talented.

KL Rahul is supposed to be the most talented.lol...he is fkin whole team balance..

If he is out Kishan will be opener+keeper..that pushes Gill out as well..

you can then accomodate Iyer and SKY in the same team..

you have Kishan the agressor on top and the SKY as agressor in lower middle order..

but this Kela is creating all the problems..and he hasnt done anything significant of late..

whats the justification of him being persisted so long..

He is 30 now..till how long he will be a work in progress or keep getting “fair run” from TM.

It's tricky. Rahul has to play as he has to keep. Iyer has done well so he can't be kept out. I would have wanted rohit and Rahul to open with Virat, Iyer, sky and hardik to follow.

There is Pant as well who is expected to come back unless made to sit out too.

They didn't give him a fair run when Dhongi & Dud were occupying undeserved spots for 2-4 years! They're now overcompensating

Iyer is best ODI batsman of India currently.

6 bowlers needed.  With Booms being absent the never ending story of Bhuvi will continue. Bhuvi/Siraj/Umran/Kuldeep/Jadeja/Pandya . So you have only 5 spots left.    Rohit/Kohli/Hahul clan will do everything in their power to keep others out.

Ya Pant is out for good time now..not even sure about odi wc too..so we hv to prepare building team without him..

having said that..he also didnt crack LOI code yet..

Why he has to keep..he is not a great keeper or even a great fielder..and prone to injuries..infact why he needs to play at all..

When classy Rahul reinvented himself for T20s after breaking away Test mode..I had high hopes from him but his repeated injuries..reoeated failures..meant he always  remainec..and today too..just as a promising player..he is 30 now..

neither he did well in Tests nor sparked up LOIs..

his attitude or body language doesnt give any confidence to me..

he is wasting a spot in the team and harming balance as well..

if he is given more chances and we didnt preoare Kishan or some other keeper..we know whats going to happen in wcup..

To accomodate him..Kishan will be dropped..and tgey wont open with Rahul as he wont be able to keep + open..

so Gill will play..who along with Rohit..will provide slow starts only..

so one of Iyer or Sky will sit out which is unfortunate..

he is fkin up whole team’s balance..

They are two different types of batsman but Indian TM and seniors seems to be pitting it up between Iyer and SKY for one spot which I think is unfair.

 

Iyer should bat at 4 and SKY at 5.

This could be teams ideal xi for wcup at home imo:

Rohit

Kishan

Kohli

Iyer

SKY

Pandya

Jadeja/Axar..floaters due to left handers

Kuldeep(Sundar if extra batting at 8th required)

Bumrah

Siraj

Umran

 

They can look into grooming Bawa in expedite mode for a backup of Pandya..if he is not able to bowl even 5 overs..

we also need backup of Bumrah too..
