Worst specialist batsman to have played 45+ tests for India

Take out Jaiswal and Pant, and our whole batting lineup is useless. Why point fingers at one player when none of Rohit, Kohli, Rahul, Gill (though Gill has age on his side and made a difference at Gabba last time) belong to this category.

 

When a newcomer all-rounder like Nitish Reddy looks head and shoulder better than most of your batsmen, you know your batting lineup is shyte.

Rahane is the worst and it's not even close..

 

Apart from his few really good SENA knocks he has being a massive disappointment for majority of his career. 

 

Used to average around 50 till 2016-17. Imagine how bad he played from 2018 onwards for his average to drop to 38!

 

Unlike KL Rahul who had a tougher job of opening and was in n out of the team, Rahane was given persistent backing at a much safer no 5 position.

Should have waited for KL to complete 50 tests. 45 looks a bit off benchmark.

 

Yes, KL is likely the answer. But Rahane isn’t far either. I just have a special place for the ton Rahane got in Melbourne 2020. It came right after Adelaide 36-9 humiliation and Kohli leaving the tour.

There's multiple layers to this - the biggest reason IMO is that the likes of Pujara/Rahane were dropped at the whim/fancies of Drunken Master even when they were doing relatively well away! Does no one remember BRat playing 35(37?) tests in a row with teams changing in every one of them

I still can't understand how Rohit got into the Test team. Forget being in the team, he was made captain as well! Says it all about BCCI and our selectors.

Rahane would have scored 8k runs at avg of 43-44 in 120 tests if he played in 2000s.

 

Same goes for KL, easily 40 avg opener in 2000s.

Only a matter of time Gill i Danda will join this list.  But, he is young & good looking.  So, will be given a long rope of atleast 100 more tests.

Rahul has been inconsistent (partly his own fault, partly muddled team selection), but I do expect Gill to "overtake" him - namely, have an even lower avg
