LordPrabhzy
https://www.espncricinfo.com/story/steven-smith-defends-abandoning-india-tour-game-we-got-served-greentop-1356716 So complains about the greentop given in the tour match in 2017 yet the team scored 450+... Anyway this precedent was set by India to refuse playing tour games again driven by the unsportsmanship of ECB etc to not provide the actual first class teams and pitches to touring Indians which has meant other boards are now retaliating.. if this is the case then just bin the concept of tour games all together and move on. Pant was another candidate to demoralize the Aussie taklu. Jaddu can. Axar might. Ash could to an extent. Yes it's not enough.top 3 are ****. Link to comment
nitinbwj
Oh Man! Iyer could have bashed the spinners. 2 Clutch Players in Tests not available. I am getting a bad feeling about the series. SRT100 and raki05 2 Link to comment
putrevus
So Iyer has been sidelined or is it real injury??? Link to comment
Nikola
Gill has to play in middle order currently at #5. He is our #4 in longer run and not great idea to expose him to new ball even though he can open. Link to comment

cowboysfan
Gill would have played anyway imo,he is in red hot form..good luck to SKY because he is going to need it,Test cricket is vastly different to T20s but i hope he plays his natural game,if the ball is there to be hit then he needs to go for it. deepdynamo
Rohit KL Pujara Kohli Gill Bharath Top 6 doesn't give me confidence. Prone to collapse. Pant & Iyer are huge loss. raki05 and cowboysfan 2 Link to comment

Nikola
Iyer maybe good against spin but australia will plan and bowl cummins & morris against him specially early in his innings. Even on indian pitches he can get out on bouncer. Gill is proper long term option for #5 and in future for #4. wanted_desi 1 Link to comment
wanted_desi
I think Iyer would have struggled against Cummins with short bowl. Gill at #4 and Kohli should move to #5. Link to comment
SRT100
This is going to be one enthralling ride this Test Series. With India's outs I am worried about us scoring enough runs. Link to comment

Top order batting woes aside we have an incredibly strong lower order at home which Aus doesn't have. Jadeja Ashwin Axar Umesh Siraj Genuine batting (atleast at home) till no 9 and even Umesh can play a dashing cameo at no 10. Man if Pant and Iyer were fit, we would easily blast them 4-nil.
