Post that series and after the CWC 2007 he started declining considerably. But Ponting had odd knock here and there to justify his place. What happened to Kohli is not new, it happens to every batsman but his decline has been dramatic with three years of no show at an age when he was supposed to be in his prime years. If Thakur wer not available they would have gone with some other fast bowler even at the cost of lack of batting https://www.espncricinfo.com/series/india-tour-of-england-2021-2022-1239527/england-vs-india-2nd-test-1239544/full-scorecard https://www.espncricinfo.com/series/india-tour-of-england-2021-2022-1239527/england-vs-india-3rd-test-1239545/full-scorecard you still dont understand. Thakur not playing as a 4th seamer does not prove anything. My point was he is not a third seamer and will not play as a third seamer. if at all he plays, he will play as a 4th seamer. otherwise, he wont play unless most of the other bowlers are injured. putrevus 1
vvvslaxman Posted June 16, 2023 Posted June 16, 2023 Lyon 4 wickets. Every attacking shot against Lyon was fraught with risk. They got some success. Lyon in return also got some success. Lyon has dismissed Moeen 10 times now.

No.. Kohli's downfall is the most dramatic i have seen of any supposed to be top level batsman. Past or present. His only good period came from maybe 2014 aussie tour to 2019 sa/bangladesh tour in india. That's it. And I am being generous here. Edited June 16, 2023 by Stan AF
Bigg Brother Posted June 16, 2023 Posted June 16, 2023 Australia has now full 2 days to bat.. I don't think England bowling can restrict Aussies here.
Stan AF Posted June 16, 2023 Posted June 16, 2023 Guys like Tendulkar had a great period from his debut in 1989 till like 2002/03. Then he had his lull period of 2004 to 2006. Again after CWC 2007 to CWC 2011 he was back to making 100s. Post 2011 to his retirement he was bad. Kohli is nothing like this.
zen Posted June 16, 2023 Author Posted June 16, 2023 Lyon what a champ! 4 wkts already on day 1! Ind spinners would celebrate to get that much in 2 tests, let alone in a test

Dravid's highest average was also around 58-59 around 2007, IIRC. after that, he averaged 42 odd for 4-5 years. Kohli never peaked enough. but then we have had more spin friendly pitches than ever in india in last 8-10 years. Kohli's current Average of 48 is as good as 52-53 average of SRT and Dravid because they played a lot in the flat batting friendly era of 2000s.

Where did say anything different? Every batsman has golden period Ponting was also 5 year from 2002 to 2007.

It doesn't change the fact Ashwin can replace both bowlers.

See Kohli peak should have lasted longer but Indian have played on most bowler friendly wickets. But he should have done better . His fall more than his peak has been dramatic. You cannot avg in 20s for three years for top order batsman. Edited June 16, 2023 by putrevus

Atleast Ponting even during slump produced a couple of match winning knocks. Stan AF 1
