Alan Border diagnosed with Parkinson's disease

Recommended Posts

3rd grade human being Beyond a brain fade, they did this to the beggars and other underprivileged people, Border proudly mentioned this in his book.

Sometime in 1979 in Kanpur, the Australian cricketers had come up with a plan to break their boredom. They would queue up in front of the hotel windows and throw money out on the streets. Even as people below would scramble for the money, the players would empty a bucketful of water on them. They called it “Raining Rupees”. In his 1986 book, Allan Border mentions the shenanigans from the tour: “We took to dropping rupees and watch them scramble .We would fill up all the available receptacles in the hotel room with water, drop the coins and whoosh!”

The racial arrogance inherent in the act seems to have escaped a man of Border’s stature. Incredibly, he even ends that passage with: “Remarkably, the Indians loved it.”

Too sad, maybe we miss the context of when it happened, was it during a light-hearted moment? But, whatever it is, it looks very poor when we read. Thanks for enlightening!

Deep down most of them are likely to be racists somewhat. May be it cooled down with BCCI dictating terms now. Remember even Hadyos referred to India as third world. Then the Dean Jones incident. We are talking about recent times. This happened in 1979. So not at all shocking. Australia was known for these kind of racism against Indians.  Only thing that is shocking is he decided to share this in his book.

This is why i am disappointed when i see Indians making racial remarks against blacks.

I'd read this a few years ago, and it was the first thing that came to my mind when I saw the thread title. Sad that he has Parkinson's. One of my uncles had it for many years before he recently passed; it's terrible and I wouldn't wish it on anyone. But am not shedding any tears for Border after I had read this.

it is hardly surprising though. there was plenty of racism from the ozzies (even from likes of waugh in 90s) back then. in fact, some of the WI players were not exempt either. none of it excuses their s**tty behavior of course.

and most people in the world don't deserve parkinson's IMO, a brutal disease
