Since Jan 01, 2021, while batting at 7 in ODI's. Jadeja averages 32 and strikes at 59 Washi averages 35 and strikes at 100 Axar averages 28 and strikes at 120 So much "high quality allrounder" and "automatic selection" Sundar was an automatic choice had he been fit. His lack of fitness went against him, plus even his performances in recent hasn't been very good. Bishnoi was another dark horse, but it seems he is predominantly seen only as a T20 bowler.

Whenever you see such selective date ranges, immediately move the range a little bit and BOOM..magic happens Since Jan 01, 2020, in ODI's, Jadeja averages 43 at a strike rate of 78. Decent as an overall package, gun fielder, very economical 5th bowler. putrevus and AuxiliA 1 1

On spinning or slower lower pitches at Chennai, Lucknow etc, Kuldeep, Jadeja and Axar all three likely to play. A decent enough bowling unit. Hopefully BCCI will not prepare flat roads where even 360-370 isn't safe. they are not doing this in Asia cup but this is the way to go even if a long tail.i would rather play Axar than Thakur on indian pitches.

Leggie Posted September 6, 2023 Posted September 6, 2023 Non Selected 11 - (Hardik - We can make 2-3 teams and win any competition ) 1. Rituraj Gaikwad 2. Yashaswi Jaiswal 3. Venkatesh Iyer (Batting Allrounder) 4. Sanju Samson (Wicket Keeper) 5. Tilak Varma (Batting Allrounder) 6. Rinku Singh 7. Washington Sundar (Bowling Allrounder) / Shivam Dubey (Batting Allrounder) 8. Deepak Chahar (Bowling Allrounder) 9. Bhuvneshwar Kumar / Arshdeep Singh 10. Umran Malik / Prasidh Krishna 11. Ravi Bishnoi / Yuzvendra Chahal
Adamant Posted September 6, 2023 Posted September 6, 2023 The team is playing Jadeja at the wrong position, so it's more of the team's fault. He need to play at 4. AuxiliA 1

Weren't you one of those supporting Shardul Thakur's inclusion at #8 for his batting? Now you're saying that Jadeja can't bat fast because nobody can hold a bat below him? I suppose Shardul didn't bat well in the last match because he knows the ones below him can't hold a bat

Jadeja is no world beater but he is the best we got.he is an excellent fielder . Jadeja and Thakur are a must for this team. It is not their fault Indian team in so unbalanced. So let me get this straight Thakur at number 8 has to score runs every match? Otherwise he is a failure. Edited September 6, 2023 by putrevus

AuxiliA Posted September 6, 2023 Posted September 6, 2023 Jadeja is in the ODI team mainly because none of our main batsmen can bowl even a bit. If they did we could have had someone like SKY at no 7. We don't have any genuine spin batting AR atm. Since the WC is in India, Jadeja isn't a bad choice. He's a great fielder and his bowling will be Ok at home. Even though he's not a big hitter he still can score runs if used properly. cricspirit 1

Let's look at Jadeja in ODI's against a few decent sides over a long period of time. From Oct 11, 2014, Opponents: OZ, ENG, NZ, PAK, SL, SA Batting innings : 32 . Not outs 11 . Runs - 608 Batting average : 28.95 ; Strike rate : 83.63 Basically, will give you 19 runs an innings at 83 strike rate while batting . What a great finisher! Mashallah! Bowling innings : 40 . Wickets - 30 . Bowling average - 64.80 , Economy - 5.22, Strike rate - 74.4 Oh, and not to mention Sir Fraudeja will now only bowl in the middle overs as seen in that Chennai ODI where he can dart and not look for wickets. Unlike Axar who bowled in the PP and at the death. If you are a bowling all-rounder as he pretends to be , you have to look for wickets or you're a waste of space. Basically the biggest fraud in this lineup and in the squad.

Axar, if he plays, will play at 8, not at 7 if the team needs extra batting depth. Jadeja in reality is competing with Washington and Washington has definitely shown more ability to hit than Jadeja. He was hitting Henry and Milne at the death when we toured NZ. Also, Hardik is a much superior player at #7 against top sides. Average of 35 and strike of 117 while offering a wicket taking threat as well. Just play the extra batter in the top 6 like Varma and get a few overs. Jadeja's bowling is hardly better than a part-timer as I've shown.
