Dhoni vs. Rohit Sharma Captaincy

We have enough data now with Rohit.

 

Kohli was removed because he failed as a captain.

 

Rohit also didn't win a single cup as a captain even in helpful home conditions.

 

Can we all accept for once that MSD had some magic to win both T20 and 50 over world cups?

 

We almost own another T20 WC if it weren't for Yuvraj messing up final against SL and I think another one where Mendis the mystery spinner tormenting us.

 

With this defeat the legacy of Kapil Dev and Dhoni will be even more established.

 

This board loves to hate Dhoni but at least he brought results and created a smooth transition with Kohli as captain even when he had a couple of more years left. I doubt Rohit will do the same to Pandya or whoever takes over next.

Dhoni somehow inspires people we have seen it time and again. Whenever failed players go to Chennai they resurrect.

Players raise their game.  MSD sucked only in Tests. In LOIs his field sets are generally good especially if it is a must-win game.  Rohit looked lost. Rohit was also irritable in the semi final. MSD would never give up in a final like Rohit did. That looked worse than Kohli's captaincy. Credit to his batting. But his captaincy was a massive let down.

Dhoni as a captain was street smart, could win you match out of no where. He won us crucial matches in LOI with bowlers like Ishant and even Joginder sharma.

 

Rohit is no where close.

Dhoni was our best captain but let's be honest, his captaincy in 2014 WT20 final sucked, horrendous. Selection, batting order, field placement etc....Ashwin had Sanga out at least 3 times at the start but raddi field placement, like how Rohit didn't keep a slip for spinners this final.

The depths Dhoni sunk Indian test team to, and how he carried on even when he had lost interest in the format, how he got Amarnath removed and promoted CSK players, Rhiti, Mudgal, Bhogle's sacking...no saints in Indian cricket.

Dhoni as captain also lost ICC tournaments, some defeats were even worse than this- first round exit,too. No need to glorify him,too..

We genuinely had crap teams. Combination of his rigidity and crappines accelerated it. This was a great inform side that Rohit managed to squander against a not so inform side.

While watching a crucial game never felt so helpless even when the opposition was 48/3 or something. This is definitely a blackmark in Rohit's captaincy history.

As long as things were going for us he was alright. But Rohit kinda checked out both in semi and final. In the semis players were losing their mind for 30 or 40 minutes. He didn't know what to do. Shami had to step up massively.

Those 3 ICC trophies hide all failures of MSD which were way more than Rohit or Virat's as captains.

Not even close. MSD is easily the best Indian captain ever in white ball cricket. 

People are now realizing his value after a ten year ICC trophy draught.

Yuvraj played one of the worst T20 innings of all time in that game which led to a poor score. That largely contributed to that loss.

Dhoni captained the ODI team at a time when the Aussies were at their weakest. 

 

They were still in transition from their great side in 2007.
