Enakku indha upcoming/next T20 WC ninaicha romba kastama irukku. Don't think we stand a chance against any team barring the minnows.

We've not made the knockout stages of any T20 WC that followed after the IPL.

2009, 2010 and 2021.

I am a little concerned about NY match. Nobody knows the pitch conditions. If it suddenly starts swinging they have two left arm seamers. Total of 8 overs. We could fold like a cheap suit.

I heard it's all drop in pitches coming from Australia.

Steve Waugh chasing 270 in a must win match in the 99 world cup (50 overs ) looks so long ago. That was the height of cricket. Now hitting sixes is like a video game.

Still one of the greatest white ball knocks of all time.

Only the pitches in America will be drop in pitches.

How big are the grounds in America ?

If it's another 40-50m then it's going to be a batter heavy game. Where anyone can beat anyone.

If it's 70-80m then advantage is to the teams who has power hitters.

Lauderhill is about 65-70 m .  Scores have varied based on the pitches/strips mostly .

But this time , they are getting that Adelaide Oval drop in both here and at NYC.

And the Adelaide Oval surface is a bat first pitch during the day .

I still consider it the best ODI knock I have seen. SA was the most feared side in that WC and Waugh took it to them coming from 3 down for nothing with a required rate of 7 (most of these younguns will never understand why that was hard back then). To me it seems like yesterday. But it is 25 years now

Yeah. It was one brutal knock. They were gone for all money after Ponting's wicket.  But Tugga showed that attack could be taken apart. In hindsight , it wasn't the greatest attack , apart from Donald and Pollock.

But the sheer ferocity of that knock still stands out.

99 is still far. our 2011 WC target was 271 in 50 overs. cricket is changing quicker than ever.

Ponting fell after the counterattack from Waugh. They had a 100 run partnership. The beautiful part of that partnership was the first 10 overs of the partnership produced 20 runs. Maybe Donald, Pollock and Elworthy were on. Elworthy was another good bowler in that world cup had pace had swing with the new ball. The duo waited for Cronje, Klusener and Boje to start bowling and Waugh went ballistic on them.

About SA's attack, yeah they relied on the front 3 to pick the wickets and the other 3 were quite handy in containing the runs after the damage was done upfront. Their bowling was on par with Pak in that WC although Pak had more variety, pacemen, seamers, and saqlain. SA's bowling was considered the best in that tournament and they proved it when they visited India next year.

I remember so much from that Headingley match alone and 99 world cup than the recent one. I did not watch a match including the finals from the recent world cup. Thank god.

Yeah even in 2011, 275 was a fighting target. It was a 50-50 chance because it was the final and scoreboard pressure. Picture this in your mind. It was 99 in England, early June, chilly with cloud cover, relentless bowling on a not so easy wicket, as the ball was seaming in and out. Your target is 270+. That is certainly more difficult than 2011 final

Couldn't get 230 in 2019 sf,but eng were piling on 400 leading up to that wc.

I think PAK and OZ were at least on par.  Fleming was a damn good ODI bowler and then there was McWarne.

Yeah it was a masterclass in taking apart weaker bowlers .  But I think Waugh did hit Pollock and Donald at the end too .

But yeah the real difference was that the Aussies had a stronger and deeper batting lineup than both SA and PAK - The Waughs, Gilly, Bevan, Ponting, Lehmann - high quality specialist batsmen while SA and PAK relied a lot on allrounders

That's what I have been saying here, and we are certainly left behind compared to gora sides

It has become so fast,no time to statpad

You have only two options

Statpad and loose or play what's in interest of your side and win

Statpadders won't have anything to hide
