MRF has launched its " Ace of Pace" initiative- which aims to discover India's fast bowlers

 

 

March 9th, 2024, Chennai: Reiterating its commitment towards nurturing fast bowling talent in Indian cricket, the MRF Pace Foundation proudly unveiled the 'Ace of Pace' trials across the country. The trials marked a significant milestone in the Foundation's continuing endeavor to unearth future pace bowling stars and offer them the opportunity to train under expert guidance in their quest to become the next speed sensations for India.

 

Three standout talents - Jaskaran Singh, aged 20 from Rajasthan - Sriganganagar, Mohd Izhar aged - 20 from Bihar - Birpur, Muhammad Sarfraj, aged - 20 from Ranchi - Jharkhand, were selected from among the many aspiring bowlers, to train for free at the prestigious MRF Pace Foundation. These bowlers will be enrolled in the academy to hone and develop their skills under the guidance of the Foundation's Director, the legendary fast bowler, Glenn McGrath, and Chief Coach, M. Senthilnathan.

MRF isn't producing good pacers for years now.

Previously with MRF they would ask state boards to send them their fast bowling talents and then they will groom those set of bowlers.

But its hard to find any place for these bowlers in their state sides, they either warm the benches and get fewer matches.

 

 

The problem is how do you find place for them in playing 11 at right time when they are near to their prime so that once they are selected in Ind intnls they are not too far from their prime.

 

With IPL and BCCI asking player to play domestic Ind intnl and retiring Ind player like Umesh, Ishant are also playing in domestic its harder to find place for newer bowlers this is a catch-22 problem.

 

BCCI also changed the age group from 23 to 25 and with Impact player rule in SMAT and IPL now retiring players are trying to push 2-3 more years in IPL and domestics

1 example in 30+ years in not a great track record, and you're likely to find one odd prospect in that duration by luck anyways. MRF pace academy is there only in name, and hasn't done anything to unearth fast bowlers.

Many Indian bowlers who have played international cricket had 2-3 day stints at MRF academy, and MRF foundation (like many other cricket coaching academies) tries to pass  these guys of as their products.

Yup. IPL has been much better at unearthing talent. MRF pace academy has been a colossal failure - can neither unearth new talent, nor guide the existing ones to improve their skill or help with injury management. Total waste of money and resources.

A pace foundation should be set up in the cooler areas of the country not in a hot and humid place like Chennai.

Setting up a pace academy on a pitch and stadium which is least suited to pace bowling. Seems like a joke to me.

Academies are usually not set up at a particular stadium like that. They usually have separate facilities.

Yes, but they'll be practicing and bowling. On that pitch, what exactly is a fast bowler supposed to learn and practice? Spin academy in Chennai makes sense but they gotta move MRF pace academy to a region/stadium which suits pace bowling.
