So if you can try out for two categories then they naturally should have scheduled trials next day. whats the point in letting athletes try for two weight categories if they cant fight at the right body weight. Or those chomus should have simply said you cant try out for both and Phogat would have to pick one - most likely 53 kg. Dumb*ery all round cost us at least a silver That was a decision she should have made instead of trying to straddle both boats. Don't think they needed to do even more than what they did considering they were already making an exception for her. These athletes don't decide which weight category they will compete in only at the last minute because they cannot make their minds up. Gollum 1

Vinesh holds a lot of sway in the wrestling community. She wanted to do this and got what she wanted. Not sure what pt you are trying to make here. She did well in her preferred weight class and competed in it at the Olympics. Her trying out for 2 categories didn't make any difference to her performance here. So I am not sure what the Indian federation could have done to prevent her from being overweight. Gollum and rollingstoned 2

Her preferred weight class is 53 kg. She should only have tried out for that. I dont know why she chose to try out for both, maybe to maximise her chances. Either wrestling federation should have put an end to it beforehand or scheduled it which makes it easier to compete for both. There is a lot of distrust between the wrestlers and the administration. No one is on the same page which is hurting the sport a lot. This medal could have been huge for the future.

They gave her the choice and she qualified for 50kg. Not sure what anyone else can do about that!

Gollum Posted August 7, 2024 Posted August 7, 2024 Vinesh had a disastrous campaign in Tokyo in 53 kg category. Most of her successes were pre Tokyo. Old now, this was her 3rd and last Olympics with not much to show for. She was in no position to demand things. Sure she outperformed here, but how would the selectors know beforehand? She missed the weight cut today, and Antim had a bad day. But Antim had better recent success, bronze in last World Championshio in 53 kg as an 18 yo, and being so young and full of potential right to take gamble on her. Vinesh started in 48 kg, has fought in 48, 50, 53 before...young Antim has only fought in 53.

A guy like Ishan Kishan was thrown out like a fly for irritating the team management. same context despite the controversies her beating that undefeated wrestler also deserves credit. Gollum 1

Yeah that makes sense and fair if that’s caused her disqualification. Still no hate though; good attempt.
