But then the flip side is that it will encourage many overweight athletes to compete in much lower weight categories since they get a lot of time to get the wrestler at the correct weight just for one weigh-in. I suspect many gold medal matches will then become forfeits.

She weighed 52.7 after yesterday probably after dinner. She lost 2.6 kilos. This as per her Sister. Now, I feel this is unfair rule. She qualified in 50 kha category before the SF. That is a fair warning n. She has to get silver at least

AKane Posted August 7, 2024 Posted August 7, 2024 I think she was very close to the 50 kg mark to start with. Between the weigh in on the previous rounds QF/SF, it seems incredible that the weight gain was 3kg. But I don't know.... I mean say you drink 2 liters of water and eat a heavy meal - how much weight do you gain? At a bare minimum it is 2.5 kgs. If the meal is high sodium it takes 1 or 2 days to lose that weight....... What is done is done - hope she deals with it okay. Must be devastating and can't even imagine what she is feeling.
vvvslaxman Posted August 7, 2024 Posted August 7, 2024 Rules are rules. I was trying to see how many times this has happened in history of olympics. Finalist getting disqualified. I know doping has led to disqualifiacition. Weight based disqualification must be rare

That was a fair fight. So why robbing her of that for events that happened later its day by day. On day of semi final after bout she weighted 52 kgs. basically they are saying you cant game the system by supplements and hence 2 day rule. previously all used to happen in one day and athletes would game the system by having rigorous weight loss tactics and win the gold on same day. 2 day rule is much fairer.

That is where you see these kind of fluctuations. It takes a while to keep your weight hover very close to a specific targeted weight regardless of your food habits. Until then you are one small meal away from dramatic increase in weight. Your body takes a while to adapt. These are only theories. Each individual is different.
Gollum Posted August 7, 2024 Posted August 7, 2024 Mirabai competing in 49 kg. Hope at least she made the weight cut today without compromising on nutrition and rest. Nikhat and Antim made weight cut but due to starvation lacked power on game day.
