Current phase should be India's greatest test phase run

Indian test cricket team have historically been batting heavy with good spinners in specific conditions but the current generation has players with wide skill-set and in good form like never before.

 

Jasprit Bumrah, Ravindra Jadeja and Rishabh Pant have just given India that extra strength on which they can form the greatest Indian test team. India's middle order which had Kohli, Pujara, Rahane suffered a poor form between 2019-22 and indirectly costed us a great chance of wins in South Africa and England.Between 2016-2020, India were formidable at home but overseas, we did lost to South Africa, England and New Zealand due to absence of established keeper, Jadeja still growing overseas and unstable opening pair.

 

Now, we have a formidable in form unit which can put up a show together. Rohit and Kohli have retired from T20s and their focus will be more shifted on Test cricket, Gill is around from a few years and has toured top countries once or more already and Jaiswal has established himself too. Rahul has been doing good in overseas tests while Pant and Jadeja gives more power in the lower middle order. Guys like Sarfaraz, Jurel, Washington, Axar are sitting outside.

 

Bumrah and Siraj are formidable pacers, only Shami's injury is a concern but he is also fit now. Kuldeep has emerged as force in Tests too and although Ashwin is not what he was between 2016-23, he is still good enough to dominate in home conditions (which is what we only expect from him). In the next few years, India must be favourites to win all test series.

Shami, Ashwin, Rohit, Kohli and Jaddu will be gone in 2 or 3 years. Siraj may lose his mojo.

Ashwin's replacement is already available in form of Kuldeep.

 

Kohli and Jaddu won't be going anywhere till 3-4 years, they are retired from T20Is and will play tests and ODIs till 2027 WC. Jaddu may play tests and IPL only.

 

Washington , Axar and Kuldeep are more than good enough to cover up for Ashwin+Jadeja. 

 

In terms of pacers, Shami can now focus completely on Tests. We already have Bumrah, Siraj and several other guys like Harshit, Mayank and Akashdeep have impressed as well.

A tours very important. We can defeat all teams at home. Need batsmen who can play in SENA. That only happens with repeated A tours. In terms of batting I would include Sai Sudarshan. Very compact technique as shown in that odi series against south african. Sarfraz will be bounced out. Pradosh Paul is one batter who played well in the A series i think against Saf. So these players should be looked into

Sudarshan's game against the short ball is not clear to me.

I have a radical idea coz going back to Rahul as Opener is a backward step.. either make Jurel Open alongside YBJ as he has solid technique and temperament or have two left hand openers Sudarshan+ Jaisawal

As much as I want sarfraz to do well but I am sorry, with that physique and fitness he shouldnt be picked.

No 7 can be Axar or Washington or someone new (Nishant Sindhu). 2 spinners plus 3 quicks.

 

In Asia, one of the quick can be rotated for an extra spinner.

Aussie batting looks suspect too. Smith on last legs that too opening same with khwaja.. Marnus luck seen to have run out. Only Head is the genuine danger for us.
