Popular Post Ultimate_Game Posted July 31, 2024 Popular Post Posted July 31, 2024 Since India revamped its team composition and started playing multiple all-rounders and batting deep (till 8), India has managed to win multiple matches where they were looking down the barrel and had around 2% probability of a win at one point... 1. Against Pak in WT20 where Pak needed 48 off 48 deliveries with 8 wkts in hand 2. Against SA in WT20 final where SA needed 27 off 28 deliveries with 6 wkts in hand 3. Against SL yesterday where SL needed 9 off 12 deliveries with 5 wkts in hand India managed to win all 3! I don't recall so many matches won in such a short time from a losing position. It goes on to show how important it is to add depth in the team with multi-dimension players. Essentially you're never out of the game even if you lose quick wkts up front or if opponent had a great start. So glad we've finally started playing the CSK and MI way by adding depth rather than going top heavy a la RCB. Also proves why CSK and MI have been so successful whereas RCB has yet to win anything. Chakdephatte Posted July 31, 2024 Posted July 31, 2024 We have improved in a lot of departments from Kohli-Shastri days. But no, this is not the explanation for such lucky wins. These are outlier events which is basically a fluke. Remember Hardik Pandya defending 3 in 3 balls against Bangladesh. We didn't even have a solid team back then. @Ultimate_Game Ultimate_Game and nevada 2
Adamant Posted July 31, 2024 Posted July 31, 2024 I remember we had three or two super over matches in a 5 match t20 series vs Nz and we won all of them. The new team composition looks good and its great that they are asking batters to bowl which is a welcome change. Ultimate_Game and Kron 2

Unless you are bumrah or shami then you are expected to bat a bit. All of the rest need to bat / slog. Ultimate_Game 1

nevada Posted July 31, 2024 Posted July 31, 2024 Good to have luck on our side for a change! Having batting depth certainly helps in T20. Axar contributed big time in the WC final and yesterday Parag and Sundar chipped in with useful scores. We are better off with 7-8 players who are capable of a quick 25-30 instead of stat padding specialist batters. Frustrated and nitinbwj 1 1

We did by playing percentage cricket, and going with the right approach. Luck will always be there, such as winning an important toss. But you need to do everything right from your side. You increase your chances by playing players who can contribute multiple ways. Even if a batsman doesn't score runs they can make a difference in the field or with the ball. Vice-versa for a bowler who can go for runs and score crucial runs. That's why need to go away from Siraj and try Harshit as he is a better bat. With likes of Harshit and Arshdeep you have bowlers who can give you those crucial 10-15 runs. You either gotta be a great in your specialist discipline like Bumrah or maybe Kuldeep in Tests, or like Jaiswal, else players who are multi-dimensional need to be played. We also need to try out Nitish Reddy and Venkatesh Iyer so we have a fill-in for Pandya as a seam all-rounder. That's one area which is still a gap for us as Dube isn't that all-rounder.

This approach worked well in Tests where you need to have skills to bowl out the opposition team. then pile some runs. Dhoni's team was not that great in tests. But in white ball format, the all rounders are useful tool. Theycan be used according to wicket how Surya did in last match. It is gambling but where you are playing percentage cricket the chances of getting desirable results are high. Ultimate_Game 1
