singhvivek141
Personally for me it's the SA of 1999, everything was going well for them, except for the last 2 games vs Australia...one had Steve Waugh scoring 130* something, in the next Donald lost his marbles, after multiple ups and downs (Warne's magical delivery to Gibbs and then Klusener's fightback). zen 1 Link to comment
Gollum
SL 1996 SL was torn by civil war, tiny third world island country (less population than some of our metros that time) which wasn't as cricket crazy as rest of SC, new entrant to cricket, they way they bulldozed everyone is the stuff of legend. Not the best on paper (among the options in poll) but they had amazing self belief, positivity, intent. Beating mental beasts Aus in a WC final deserves extra points IMO, toughest feat in this sport. Greatest story in cricket is Lanka's rise in the 90s. Edited Thursday at 04:19 AM by Gollum Tillu, putrevus, zen and 1 other 1 3 Link to comment
zen
Gone with the Kiwis for M Crowe’s batting and captaincy: * Superb batting. For the first time, I had seen such impactful consistent batting in a big tournament. * Innovative captaincy where an off spinner, Deepak Patel, opened the bowling and the Kiwi openers were going bang bang in the power play. * The atmosphere that used to change when M Crowe was at the crease. The commentary used to be entertaining as well! Not to forget the use of coloured clothing and white balls for the first time in a World Cup. My vague memory of 96 wc is (minus the highlights) 1. Caught and bowled by Kumble 2. Miandad runout & then 50:50 ad. 3. Kambli 99 WC was the one from when I became a regular watcher. Link to comment
