Vickydev
The 45th Chess Olympiad starts today in Hungary. In the Open event, we are the 2nd seeds behind USA with 4 Super GMs. No Anand this time, but we'll have World #4 Arjun Erigaisi along with the 3 guys who were part of the candidates in Vidit, Pragg and the eventual winner Gukesh. An extremely strong line up, probably the strongest we have gone with. USA, China and defending champs Uzbekistan are other strong contenders. Can see only Nakamura among the top guys missing, so the field is quite strong In Women's, we are the top seed with Harika, Vaishali and u-20 champion Divya Dehmukh. Also Humpy isn't there this time. @Lord, @Austin 3:!6please pin this thread Mariyam, randomGuy, Gollum and 1 other 1 2
Vickydev
Face Morocco in the Open and Jamaica in the Women's categories. As the top players sit out the 1st round, Gukesh and Harika will be opting out of this one
Vickydev
5 rounds in, as we have the first rest day today. Pretty impressive 100% records in both Open and Women's teams as we lead both. US and Uzbekistan have already faltered with a loss each in the Open and China lost yesterday in the women's category. In the Open event, Gukesh and Arjun have scored 4/4 and 5/5 respectively. To have someone like Arjun, World #4, in board 3 shows how much depth we have right now. Serbia and Azerbaijan, couple of tricky teams have been comfortably seen off but we'll see some big games in the coming days. India v China should be happening soon as both teams are at 100%. Speaking of women, Vaishali and Vantika pulled off a great comeback win against Kazakhstan after Harika lost on the top board. Gollum
Gollum
Still early days, but a very good start, ruthless performance. Will face China, USA, Uzbekistan, Ukraine in coming rounds for sure. Not much interest in women's section because top 4 players of China aren't playing (as opposed to just Humpy for us), otherwise no way any team could have competed with them. Odd to see absence of Russia but plenty of Russians are representing other countries, having changed their federations since the war broke out. bharathh
For ppl that want to follow the games live - there are multiple youtube streams that provide different countries' boards including the official FIDE streams. I can't really really follow the game beyond the first 10 moves, but nice to hear different ppl providing their inputs into the games. Gollum
Arjun live ELO 2791.3, can hit 2800 by end of the tournament. Gets forgotten amidst the hype of Gukesh and Pragg. randomGuy
Mariyam
We are 6/6 in both the Open and the Womens category. The only country to be on a 6/6. And we have had to leave out Vishy Anand, Nihal Sarin and Adibhan. Even our B team would mount a serious challenge. We play China next. Could we see a Gukesh vs Ding? Exciting times we live in. coffee_rules, randomGuy and Vickydev 2

So they would play teams which are on a similar score. This ensures that you end up playing teams to your level. As a result the first tie break is cumulative score. After 4 rounds, a team with a LWWW sets you much behind a team with a WWWL, though their absolute scores are tied. As we are the only side on 6, we will be playing teams on 5 or 5.5 (if any). randomGuy
Indian youngsters are doing excellent in chess. Wish Olympic sports were doing this well. I think these things change country profile. Gollum and Mariyam 1

Except that game against Nodirbek, he had a stellar tournament. 3rd place in the last edition was us announcing to the world that we have arrived on the World Stage.
