coffee_rules Posted September 16, 2024 Posted September 16, 2024 Interesting article on various WTC scenarios for teams to reach the final. https://www.espncricinfo.com/story/wtc-scenarios-englands-chances-take-a-hit-sl-bangladesh-still-in-contention-1450554 For India: India Percent: 68.52, series remaining: Bangladesh (two home Tests), NZ (three home), Australia (five away) India remain on top of the table with a healthy percentage of 68.52, but they still have 10 matches to go, the most for any team. To keep their percentage above 60 - they qualified for the 2023 final with 58.8 - they need 63 more points, which they can achieve with five wins and a draw. Six wins will lift the percentage to 64.03, but to match their current score they will need seven wins, which will lift their overall percentage to 69.3. India has to win at least 5 out of 10. If we don't win a test in BG trophy in the worst case, India should manage a couple of draws and try to win all 5 at home. Hence getting your A1 team for BD and NZ series will be important. We see why Bumrah is playing against BD. He and spinners are key for India to teach the final again!
jf1gp_1 Posted September 16, 2024 Posted September 16, 2024 NZ always surprises us. Let's see what happens this time.

Gollum Posted September 17, 2024 Posted September 17, 2024 2021 too should have been Ind-Aus final, but cunning tactics of NZ as usual played spoilsport. Most underserving ICC champs.

Norman Posted September 17, 2024 Posted September 17, 2024 Will be an India Australia final once again.. We are stronger from 2023 with Bumrah, Pant and addition of Jaiswal. Australia are weaker from 2023 with Warner gone, Smith-starc-Lyon past their best. Lords is a much more favourable venue for us than the bouncy oval of 2023 which suited Australians to to the.
Stan AF Posted September 17, 2024 Posted September 17, 2024 There's nothing to discuss. We have to go to the finals and win this time. No ifs and buts!. Mariyam 1

Yeah but I don't think Australia would have won the series in SA either with their low morale after losing home series to India C and dressing room divided between coach and captain. Atleast New zealand won all their home series in that cycle on suitable pitches
Ultimate_Game Posted September 17, 2024 Posted September 17, 2024 Pointless as we'll again face a one-off Test in away conditions against a SENA team. It would be like a home game for them. Unless the tourney rule changes where the final is played at the no. 1 ranked team's venue, we'll always be huge underdogs. Expecting us to win in green, seaming, swinging conditions against SENA is akin to expecting SENA teams to beat us in sub-continental conditions. BCCI messed up by scheduling all the WTC finals in England, and despite India being the clear no. 1 Test team over the years, have nothing to show for it as the one-off final is scheduled in England instead of say Chennai or Kolkatta. coffee_rules 1
