Murali has 11 MOTS, Ashwin 2nd with 10.

Kallis 9

Imran, Warne, Hadlee 8 each

Sehwag and Sachin next best from India, with 5 each.

Incredible stats. Ashwin has played 42 series for his 10, Murali 61 for his 11.

LINK

Whats funny is he missed out on 2 MOS

1. Against WI recently..they didnt announce a MOS...he was set to win it.

2. BGT 2020 until injury happened. Performed in every game.

Then there were 2 more series where he had incredible performances with the bat and ball...but someone had an even more insane series (Rohit and Kohli).

2013 WI home

2016 Eng home

Unreal stuff.

Haha.

I would say Tendulkar and Gavaskar are top 2.

Then Ashwin has a case.

Given the teams we had in those days they could be higher on the list, near the top, it's all subjective any way.

Nah.. Sachin Tendulkar :--D

No point of comparing mortals to a GOD. :adore:

I am a fan of all great India cricketers  and don't want to go into stats game but Greatest has lot of other aspects than just stats on field. Nobody considers Murali the greatest bowler though his stats just stand out.

HE is a series guy. Not just match guy. He consistently delivers across the series a reason why we are about to win 18th series in a row.

He is consistent.

There is an extra layer of pressure and expectation when you are the leader of the bowling attack (in Asia).

Ashwin is not just about wickets or SR...he controls the game...the team's fortune mostly depends on how well he bowls.

In his entire career, he was awful in 2 Asia series.

2012 Eng

2023 Bangladesh

One we lost

One we almost drew

There were also instances where he looked jaded.... like when Jaddu saved us during Bangalore 2017 Aus first innings and Bumrah in the Eng 2024 second test first innings...but even in those tests..you will see him come back in the second innings to deliver a crucial blow and win the test.

When you factor in intangibles (that can only be experienced when you watch the game)...Ashwin's impact goes way beyond even his bowling stats.

Surely there are many bowlers who could have done well playing in Ashwin's era but when it comes to controlling the game and delivering the knockout blow when its very much needed (in Asia)..he really is among the very best.

One reason he tries his best adapt to surface by varying pace accordingly. Also he is one guy who is totally unfraid of changing action. Typically bowling action is set for life for most spinners unless you are called for chucking.  He has basic variations of 5. Then some

Lol at people talking about Tendulkar or Gavaskar.

Tendulkar was a steady eddy who rarely had impactful series forget impactful career in winning matches.

Gavaskar who was playing so slow that even if match and series was there to be won, he refused to even attempt to chase the total of 126.

If it were left to either of them India would be still way behind in losses than wins till now.

more runs and more 100s. Gavaskar once said the safest place to bat is in the opposite end of the pitch exposing your team mate to the fire. He cared about his wicket, much like how sachin cared about paying least ammout of tax and least amount of pennies to the poor bat maker when we was a multi millionaire.

Yes and no. 10 player of match and 10 man of the series  in test, next is viru with 5 pos do no think Tendulkar or Gavaskar.  makes a cut  Gavaskar have 5 pom.

But Ashwin stats will always be tainted by his not so good out of Ind record to a point that  he was not in playing 11 /or his place was always in ques. out side Ind.

If some1 is greatest can their place be questioned in playing 11 ???

No because he doesn't have a standout performance in Test matches played in SENA conditions.

He has many at home and lower tier nations such as Windies, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka but none in SENA.

In Bangladesh last test he got a 100 and a 5-fer in a single test only but send him to SENA and he doesn't even have a 5-fer or a 100 in his entire career there.

All round performance matters and that's where Gavaskar, Tendulkar and in recent times Bumrah excel.

Who is the spinner who got outstanding record away from home.

Ashwin has great record in all except couple of countries. He might not have won matches by taking 5 fers but he has decent enough record even in Australia after his initial tour.

Which spinner is going to taken over Ashwin in all time XI for India. He is better spinner than any other Indian past or present spinner.

Kumble Harbhajan and Kuldeep miles better than Ashwin.

Only problem is Kuldeep keeps getting dropped even after MOTM performances and the other 2 didn't have Bumrah, Pant saving their ass in SENA.

Axar Patel killed England in India and we all agree he's mediocre at best.

Ashwin most protected and overhyped player who lead the attack in 0-5 dubbings under Dhoni who still persisted with him and Jadeja.

Did you come to that conclusion from your behind. Try again.

What 0-5 nonsense you keep posting.

Bhajji himself knows he is not good enough as Ashwin.

Kuldeep , where do you get this nonsense.

Doing well in one series and doing well for 100 plus tests , there is ocean difference.

Kumble is not even in same ballpark as Ashwin, wth did he do which is better than Ashwin.

Like mention is Ashwin a goat? -- Yes and no

Yes-- Has 2nd most pos just 1 behind murali which will be equaled in this series, 10 years of home dominance is due to him and jadeja. he is same as Anderson imo.

No-  0 5fer in SENA, his averages, eco and SR all soars up.

That's more a measure of Indian team selections than Ashwins ability. Someone who has returned like Ashwin should be trusted to make it.

We are talking about greatest Indian test cricketer not great cricketer ever to play the game.
