Is Ashwin the greatest Indian Test cricketer of all time?

Have not seen Gavaskar

Sachin during his second peak was as good as I have seen anyone bat. But his best was in one of the toughest period for batters (early 90's to early 00's). He averaged 60 for 10 years straight.

But these guys have not done much with their second skill.

Ashwin is like Sachin of bowling, plus so many performances with the bat. Don't think anyone will better that.

Absolutely not.

Indian ATG, and the MVP in Asian conditions along with Jadeja. Nobody (apart from maybe prime Sehwag and Kumble) in Indian cricket comes close to Ash/Jaddu in SC conditions. But all conditions considered, still Sachin. Bumrah may surpass Sachin by the end of his career.

Sachin and Bumrah are GOAT category so they will always be up there.

Safe to say, Ashwin is comfortably India's biggest match winner in tests.

Shout out to Jaddu as well.

Defo.

Dude is a monster.

Best AR of this generation.

No one in the media even calls him that which is insane.

yep mostly it is hate due to white ball. Guy has performed overseas with bat too.

I'd argue Ashwin's all round skills and the fact that bowlers are generally more important in winning Test matches tips the scales in his favour.

For all the hate test captain Dhoni gets, he backed Ash and Jaddu n their initial years, even pushing out Bhajji by 2012-13. Many people cried about CSK lobby and what not, these two legends have proved those allegations wrong.

Ash is back to watching cricket lol. He is a true cricket fan first a reason why he is able to keep reinventing himself. Players stop becoming fans once they become cricketers. THey don't care what is going on elsewhere.  Understandable. But Ashwin is still very much a cricket fan before cricketer.

And Dhoni was the one who backed Rohit and made him an opener. And continuously backed Kohli. If Rohit and Kohli had played under captains like themselves, their careers would've been over by 2010 by preferring "experience" over the youngsters.

He is the GOAT Indian test cricketer. No one comes close to him. It is very unfortunate for him not to play more matches away from him to compensate for lack og batting depth.

Kumble is not even best Indian bowler even in Indian conditions. So Kumble is not even in conversation with him.

He is best spinner in Asia.I don't count chucker Murali as a legtimate bowler.

Why do these threads pop up every time he gets a fifer/hundred or MoM? You do know there's one more person playing right now who's arguably had a better claim :om:

Ashwin is not contending for allrounder, he is contending for greatest test cricketer.

Bowling Allrounders are defined more by their impactful knocks with bat than their Avg.

Jadeja makes more sense to Indian team in SENA .Jadeja is never going to win matches as a bowler in those countries either.

This has nothing to do with A/R—Jadeja's just as big a match winner as Ashwin! You can pretend to not have watched matches where Jadeja outbowled him, or Moen in England, but the fact remains Jadeja is just as good when we needed him. Having said that, as a combo, they're the best we've ever had, as well as the best set of match winners ever in test cricket across 140+ years!

Murali has 11 MOTS, Ashwin 2nd with 10.

Kallis 9

Imran, Warne, Hadlee 8 each

Sehwag and Sachin next best from India, with 5 each.

Incredible stats. Ashwin has played 42 series for his 10, Murali 61 for his 11.
