Cricket discourse is now limited to jabzaa daleri even in India. Even commentators talks about player's character, clutchness, aura more than runs and wickets.

Yeah I've never understood that. Barring exceptions, this is 90% a skill and endurance(Tests) based sport.

Current gutless players are lucky to hv lost to kiwis at home.  If the opponent were Aus, these losers would hv subjected to insane level of sledging & embarassment in front of home crowd.  I would hv loved to see some sledging from kiwis here.

Kela was top run scorer in t20 around 2020 to 22 where some of you guys anointed him best t20 player in world and than come wc 21 and 22 where he played maiden overs in pp for India. Stats without context is useless so runs and wkts doesn’t matter if context is not tied to it atleast LSG exposed this selfish stats padder and his followers.

BCCI doesn't set expectations like that. They just give the longest rope possible for these "sooperstars"

The joke of people here is just a few weeks back in Bangladesh series the celebrations were as if team won WC.

No not really, I was calling a bunch of Ashwin fangirls out for their drama & what not! I was also saying this team wouldn't try that (8/over) against Oz/Eng or any of the better sides - Bangers are just Bang avg overall.

Virat is a weird one.  He is still a good player of pace and bounce .

But against lateral movement and spin, he is a complete duck.

Basically, his selection for BGT is still understandable. Makes more sense than selecting him for a World T20 on Caribbean pitches at any rate.

However, if he fails in BGT,  then he should be forcibly retired in all formats, including ODIs.

His issue, at least on goodish surfaces is a self imposed one - if he's fit there's no reason to not play sweeps/cuts or the occasional pull/hook other than not wanting to get out! Which is to say to reduce chances of a dismissal - but he's not scoring many any way so what's the *ing harm?

we can mock Bangladesh. But they beat NZ in NZ. THey beat NZ in BD. India lost 2 tests in NZ. Lost WTC final to NZ.  Lost 2 tests here. BD does better against NZ than India

We have been NZs punching bag iirc for 20-25years(they have dominated us irrespective of conditions when it mattered)

That's true. But his inability or aversion to play sweeps did not deter the TM from picking for a T20 World Cup on Caribbean pitches .

Why would they now drop him from BGT where he gets pitches and conditions more to his strengths .

I personally think he is finished across formats but I don't expect GG to do anything drastic.

A failure in BGT should however lead to some tough decision making

In 2000s we were okay as we had batting might.  Even then we had to work a lot harder. If you want to beat them you need clinical boring players who can do stuff over and over. Be it is bowling or batting. I remember Zaheer bowled like 12 or 13 overs on the trot in NZ then Gambhir batted 10 hours.

Ashwin and Jadeja don’t deserve the flak they are getting, they have easily been the biggest reason behind our home domination, they failed in one series and we lost.

Yes Ashwin was MOS last series and Jadeja did well v Eng. Its our batting that has let us down
