He is inexperienced bro. Give him a chance Ofcourse he won't be sacked but these results can not be forgiven for those reasons when analysing his performance. As I said even previous coaches had to work with those constraints. But it was never this bad. We are looking great in T20 because seniors stepped down themselves before he took over. Doubt he'd have removed them from there too. God bless SA for choking in finals and ridding us of the seniors atleast in T20s Vickydev 1

Not to mention the 0-3 disaster at home which ultimately screwed our sureshot WTC F qualification. We could have been 3rd time lucky at the WTC F. Sandz, Gollum and Vijy 3

Sharma had a few decent test innings for a while. He wasn't this level of tailender and gave good starts even in the last BGT.

Texan Posted January 1, 2025 Posted January 1, 2025 Looks like drama to save his @$$. Why did he let them do "whatever they want" for 6 months? Doesn't his job start on Day 1? Isn't he getting paid from Day 1? If things were not this rotten, this press leak would not have made it to the public. He has had one of the worst starts of any coach for India. Getting whitewashed at home should have been an eye-opener. Why did it take so long? If he really means it though, let's see if he has the guts to drop Sharma and Kohli. I don't think he has those guts. Lord, Vijy and Sandz 3

I don't think he has those guts. It's not a question of guts. The Indian cricket coach has no authority to change the captain. His brief is team strategy and player management and is largely advisory to the captain. At best, he can advise the captain to drop himself and Kohli but that advice can be ignored. Both captain and coach are appointed by BCCI and both answer to them. The decision to change the captain will be made by the BCCI and selectors and Gambhir might have an input but that's about it. In theory Rohit could continue but decide to drop Kohli from the playing XI but his own low credibility in being able to justify that means it is not a realistic prospect. Gambhir, having being on a losing streak since he started, is not in a strong position in being able to justify the sackings of others. Edited January 1, 2025 by lemsip kruiser 1

If his suggestions are not taken seriously, then he should quit. No point in having a coach only in title without the power to influence decision making.

After losing the Melbourne Test because of another batting collapse, Gambhir reportedly told the members of Team India to abide by his methods and techniques or else face the axe. "Gambhir, who took over as coach on July 9, is learnt to have talked about how he had let the team do what it wanted for the “last six months” but would now “decide” how they would play. In a veiled warning to players to toe the line, he is learnt to have said that going ahead, those who don’t abide by his pre-decided team strategy would be given a “thank you”," the report added.

No he cant. He can advise the captain not to select someone in the playing xi but ultimately the captain decides who plays.

Yes, it's mostly hot air/gas, assuming that the "report" is correct. Lord 1

Nikhil_cric Posted January 2, 2025 Posted January 2, 2025 GG won't last. This is all on the BCCI and the selection committee. They need to make the tough decision to drop the captain. GG maybe right but coach being at loggerheads with the captain will destroy the team. If you were hell bent on making GG as coach , you should have forced RoKo and Jadeja to retire and then made him coach. Frustrated and Vickydev 2
