what about KL Rahul who never performed in any crucial games? what's pants contribution in 2019 ODI World Cup and 2024 t20 World Cup? should he be dropped from ODI's and t20's? should KL Rahul be dropped from ODI's since he failed in 2023 World Cup and did not do great in 2019 World Cup?

How come sachin played for 40 years? how did dhoni play till 38?

Just coz one player did a mistake, doesn't mean we need to repeat the same to justify it.

Sachin was good till 2011, its only between 2012-13 his form dipped due to age when his reflexes slow down. MSD should have retired post 2015 WC itself, but Srini mama scared the selectors post Amarnath saga.

For Virat & Rohit, it isn't only the age but their technique as well. Virat is consistently late in his trigger movement, bat goes too far away from body and against a moving ball he keeps on nicking. Same reason why he struggles against spin as well, though he is likely to do well in flat pitches where late movement is out of equation.

Rohit is always susceptible against moving ball unless he knows what's coming, plus his fitness at 37 is worse than Sachin has in his 50's. The way he is batting now a days it would have made more sense to retire from Tests and kept playing T20's instead, where his 22 (13) or 18(12) type inns would have some impact for the team.

Neither Tendulkar and Dhoni sucked this hard for so long. Tendulkar should've retired after WC2011 and played on for 2 more years. Dhoni retired from Tests in 2014, which was perfect, and played on till 2019 in shorter formats and ideally should've retired in 2017. And remember that Dhoni was a wk-bat, and his keeping was pretty solid, and as a wk-batter he wasn't as hopeless as Kohli and Rohit are.

But Kohli has been sucking for 5+ years. He's a specialist batter - doesn't bowl or keep, drops sitters and has even started running out his batting partners. And Rohit is an embarrassment to any sportsperson. There's absolutely no comparison between Tendulkar-Dhoni, and the depths these two bozos (Rohit-Kohli) have plumbed.

I see Gambhir as a necessary evil here. He is the only one who can crack whip against superstar culture. He may not be a good long term solution, but something that is necessary to shake up the system which will be good in long term.

I don't see any other coach who could have guts to drop Rohit. Or could have dragged these prima donnas to play bilateral ODIs like SL series.

Him playing Washy ahead of Jadeja in Perth was also an example how he wants to flush out oldies and wants to infuse youngsters.

Rohit and Kohli are still there after 2 series losses. What whip is cracked?

Playing oldies instead of youngsters in ODI series in SL shows his backward thinking

In an ideal world, only one of them should have played for the experience factor  post t20 world cup(not they bring anything to the table).

On top of that, they are planning to iron out their "technical issues" before England tour

No whip,no punishment, they are hostages to these two villains of humiliation

They should be kicked out before thew next cycle

Tell me name of a coach who would have dropped Rohit from the XI in the middle of a series.

Obviously he can't ask Rohit to announce retirement.

He played oldies probably because he wants a continuity in the ODI playing XI between big tournaments. I am not arguing this is a great thing to do, but tell me one coach who would have stood up these superstars to resting as per their whims and dragged them from their vacations to play matches ?

lol that is just the PR. On one hand you claim he is pushing youngsters but then also its his achievement to play seniors in ODI series lol. Why not drop them altogether and play CT with young side?

Rohit should have been sacked after NZ series itself, that he came back and captained despite Bumrah winning shows how weak GG is.

Are you saying I am part of Gambhir's PR ?

The team for Aus tour was announced way too early. We were in the middle of second test against NZ and they announced the team.

Power dynamics started changing by the time Melbourne test ended.

At times like these, I fully suspect the entire game is f**** :hmpf:

no but you are falling for it

What has changed? One guy sat out and there is massive campaign to make it seem like a sacrifice for Indian cricket. He'll be back as captain soon.

you can't have selective criteria. Dhoni never played a single t20 knock out or important innings in world cups yet played 6 t20 world cups. Dhoni the ODI batter was finished in 2013-2014 and lost many matches taking matches deep. If dhoni was dropped or retired, India had plenty of keepers to choose from.

Tendulkar should've retired after WC2011 and played on for 2 more years.

But sachin did. Kohli will play since he is in similar stature. 2020-2022 covid years was tough for the entire world. For players like kohli who are used to crowd enegergizing and helping the performance go up, it was a bad thing. 2023 was a great year for kohli, the test batter. Do not say 5 years, its 3 years excluding the covid period.

kohli defies age with fitness. He has a mental block against balls outside off stumps. If he corrects it, there is no stopping him. lets wait for champions trophy/ENG series.  For international cricketers, it's not the moving ball  but the enormity of occasion.(like the 2023 ODI final or 2024 t20 final)  Kohli scored well in Aus/ENG earlier, agreed he failed this time.

Rohit is on decline though.

India were chasing 239 in ODI WC SF. It was Kohli's moronic captaincy and team selection where he dropped Shami which allowed NZ to score that much. And when you're supposed to be "King" and "Hitman" surely chasing 230 odd shouldn't be a problem, is it? But as always they failed and couldn't even bat out the new ball spell which was all that was needed and crumbled to 5/3!

In WC 2023 it was Shami, Kuldeep and Bumrah who always kept opponents in check. Batting barely had any pressure. And when they were supposed to show up in the final we all saw what they did.

If you're anointed "King" or renowned as "Hitman" surely you need to show up in a final like Travis Head. If Pandya getting injured is what derailed the team then maybe Pandya deserves to be called "King" or "Hitman" instead of the useless turds who could never show up in finals, and even most of the knockouts. Kohli averaging in 60s in ODIS and scoring 100s for fun while chasing in meaningless bilaterals is of no use when all he could do was wilt under pressure and fail every time.

Kohli averaging in 60s in ODIS and scoring 100s for fun while chasing in meaningless bilaterals is of no use when all he could do was wilt under pressure and fail every time?

A ode century in semis(his 50th century against NZ)  and half century in final is wilting under pressure? I am talking about the team combination in 2023 ODI final where rishbad pant/pandya were missed in lower order. It was innings of KL Rahul 66 off 105 balls which led India down in the final. The so called youngster shubmangill threw it away, shreyas an other youngster failed. Its kohli who had score 54 off 63 balls and unlucky to be dismissed on an inside edge.

Kohli averaging in 60s in ODIS and scoring 100s for fun while chasing in meaningless bilaterals is of no use when all he could do was wilt under pressure and fail every time ?

If kohli has habit of wilted under preassure, he would not have scored in knock out matches in 2014 t20 semis, 2016 t20 semis/virtual quarter final against AUS and 2024 t20 Final against South Africa.  Hitman turned up in the final but threw it away after scoring a 6 and 4 against max well.

Batting barely had any pressure. And when they were supposed to show up in the final we all saw what they did.

The tactical brilliance of David was exposed. He went for a bloody slow/docile  pitch to trap Australia which backfired. (Assuming AUS would always bat first in finals)

So suddenly you are switching from tests to ODIs, ok then

KL has the worst average for any player ever in the Indian team who has played over 50 tests.

Pant sucks at lois.

None of them should be part of the Indian team.

Sachin played for 40 years because he was great for 39 of those years and at 40 still had the hunger to play ranji for practices. Compare his last 5 years with Kohlis last 5 years please.

Comparing sachin to Kohli is only something a cricket illiterate can do.

.

Yes an illiterate who is watching/following Indian cricket since 1995. Sachin for all his greatness was abysmal in ODI World Cup knock outs or tournament knock outs. He was also playing one less formant( t20 + IPL)

Wasim akram , the legendary fast bowler never put sachin in all time team of batters/top 10 batters, for the simple reason sachin never imposed himself unlike Lara or Kohli,

How many more excuses to gloss over failures of Kohli who's averaging 30 over the last 5+ years. He's statistically the worst averaging no. 4 across all teams. His performances are in Shan Masood category. The only player I've seen with 5+ years of non-performance.

Kohli hasn't "defied" anything. He's a walking wicket. He can't play pacers and can't play spinners either. We all saw how he performed in SL and in the recent home series against NZ. He was consistently bowled or LBW against spinners and he has regressed to such an extent he was bowled off a full toss against Santner and then made a "shocked Pikachu" face as always :giggle:

Kohli "defying" his age would be if he he was scoring runs and performing. That's the definition of the word "defying". He hasn't made a difference in his whole career scoring cheap bilateral runs and failing as usual when the stakes are high. He and Rohit were the reason for us going a decade without winning a single ICC tourney coz the "King" only delivered in bilaterals.

Cause there are no other batters left in India so let’s keep regurgitating rubbish.

RoKo PR coming out of the woodworks now.
